Microbial oxidation of arsenite in a subarctic environment: diversity of arsenite oxidase genes and identification of a psychrotolerant arsenite oxidiser [PDF]
Background: Arsenic is toxic to most living cells. The two soluble inorganic forms of arsenic are arsenite (+3) and arsenate (+5), with arsenite the more toxic. Prokaryotic metabolism of arsenic has been reported in both thermal and moderate environments

Bayesian Spectral Modeling of Microscale Spatial Distributions in a Multivariate Soil Matrix [PDF]
Recent technological advances have enabled researchers in a variety of fields to collect accurately geocoded data for several variables simultaneously. In many cases it may be most appropriate to jointly model these multivariate spatial processes without constraints on their conditional relationships. When data have been collected on a regular lattice,

Manganese nanoclusters and nanowires on GaAs surfaces [PDF]
We have computed the local magnetic moments of manganese and neighboring arsenic for various cluster configurations on the (001) surface of GaAs bulk crystal using a cluster of 512 atoms. We obtained for manganese a substantial local magnetic moment of 3.66 Bohr magnetons for all cases considered.

Effect of ‘Galamsey’ on Human Fertility: A Systematic Review
ABSTRACT Background and Aims In Ghana, the term ‘galamsey’ refers to illicit small‐scale gold mining. It is a primary factor in water pollution, land degradation and other environmental harm. It has also been connected to health risks like displacement and mercury poisoning. The rates of infertility among humans are rising, according to a recent study.

Interstitial diffusion of arsenic in silicon [PDF]
The mechanism underlying the long-range interstitial migration of nonequilibrium impurity interstitial species is used to simulate arsenic redistribution in ion implantation. An excellent agreement of the calculated arsenic concentration profiles with experimental data allows one to assume that the migration of nonequilibrium arsenic interstitial atoms

Growth control of GaAs nanowires using pulsed laser deposition with arsenic over pressure [PDF]
Using pulsed laser ablation with arsenic over pressure, the growth conditions for GaAs nanowires have been systematically investigated and optimized. Arsenic over pressure with As$_2$ molecules was introduced to the system by thermal decomposition of polycrystalline GaAs to control the stoichiometry and shape of the nanowires during growth.
