A pan‐European citizen science study shows population size, climate and land use are related to biased morph ratios in the heterostylous plant Primula veris

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 1, January 2026.
A large‐scale citizen science study involving thousands of cowslip (Primula veris) observations from all over Europe revealed an unexpected prevalence of S‐morphs over L‐morphs, which was influenced by climatic as well as land use factors. Furthermore, general morph ratios were often unbalanced with the strongest shifts occurring in smaller populations.

Effects of reduced precipitation and advanced spring phenology on intra‐ and interspecific competition between beech, oak and linden saplings

open access: yesJournal of Ecology, Volume 114, Issue 1, January 2026.
European beech, essential to Central European forests, faces rising drought stress, yet its sapling regeneration remains strong. Therefore, we tested beech, oak and linden saplings in monoculture and mixtures under reduced precipitation and spring warming.

Cereal Arabinoxylans—Their Enzymatic Degradation and Relevance for Breadmaking and Human Health

open access: yesComprehensive Reviews in Food Science and Food Safety, Volume 25, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT As the most abundant nonstarch polysaccharides in cereals, arabinoxylans (AXs) contribute significantly to the global intake of dietary fiber. They play a crucial role in the breadmaking process with respect to dough rheology and texture, bread volume, and nutritional quality, especially when starting from wheat or rye flour.
