Acidosis is a disturbance that lowers the extracellular fluid pH. Alkalosis is a disturbance that raises the extracellular fluid pH. Acidemia is a reduction of the final extracellular fluid pH. Accordingly an acidemia may result from a combination of different types of acidosis or a combination of acidosis and alkalosis.
