Construction of hybrid 1D‐0D networks for efficient and accurate blood flow simulations
A set of coupling equations to appropriately couple nonlinear 1D and lumped‐parameter (0D) models for blood flow in compliant vessels is defined. Then, a methodology for the high‐order numerical coupling between 1D and 0D vessels through hybrid junctions is proposed.

Arterial Stiffness Assessed by Cardio-Ankle Vascular Index
Arterial stiffness is an age-related disorder. In the medial layer of arteries, mechanical fracture due to fatigue failure for the pulsatile wall strain causes medial degeneration vascular remodeling.

Insights on Advances in 3D Bioprinting for Peripheral Nerve Regeneration
Peripheral nerve injury is a common condition due to trauma that significantly impacts the life of the affected individual. This review explores the anatomy, classification, and pathophysiology of peripheral nerve injuries. It also discusses various types of nerve conduits and presents a detailed review of 3D bioprinted nerve conduits used in both in ...

Main Points A subset of OPCs do not express Olig2, of which population peaks in the juvenile brain while wanes with age. Plastic changes of the brain by acute injuries or complex motor learning stop the expression of Olig2 in OPCs. Abstract Oligodendrocyte precursor cells (OPCs) are uniformly distributed in the mammalian brain; however, their function ...

A shallow water with variable pressure model for blood flow simulation [PDF]
We performed numerical simulations of blood flow in arteries with a variable stiffness and cross-section at rest using a finite volume method coupled with a hydrostatic reconstruction of the variables at the interface of each mesh cell. The method was then validated on examples taken from the literature.

Injectable pH responsive conductive hydrogel for intelligent delivery of metformin and exosomes to alleviate myocardial ischemia‐reperfusion injury. The hydrogel responds to the weakly acidic microenvironment of ischemic injury and can significantly reduce the production of intracellular ROS and enhance cardiac conduction, thereby resisting apoptosis ...

Measuring brain beats: Cardiac‐aligned fast functional magnetic resonance imaging signals
Blood and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) pulse and flow throughout the brain, driven by the cardiac cycle. We use rapid functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) measurements to assess blood and CSF flow dynamics in a conventional 3 T magnetic resonance imaging scanner.

Detection and localization of Coronary Arterial Lesion with the Aid of Impedance Cardiography [PDF]
In recent years, coronary artery disease is escalating and is likely to assume an epidemic proportion by 2030. Currently the reliable methods for detection of coronary arterial lesions are either conventional coronary angiogram (CAG) or MDCT (Multiple Detector Computed Tomography) coronary angiogram.
