Porcine kidney xenotransplantation: From primate models to clinical reality

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
In the face of a critical shortage of human donor kidneys for end‐stage renal disease patients, porcine kidney xenotransplantation has emerged as a viable solution. This field has navigated major hurdles, including immune rejection, physiological incompatibilities, potential biomechanical differences and the risk of cross‐species infection. To overcome

Reoperation after the arterial switch operation for transposition of the great arteries

open access: yesThe Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery, 1995
Although most children after an arterial switch operation for transposition of the great arteries have normal development and cardiac function, a few require reoperation. During the last 10 years, 68 of 753 patients who underwent arterial switch operations (9.3%) underwent 75 reoperations.

Regional gas exchange evaluation during ex vivo lung perfusion in a swine model of localized lung dysfunction

open access: yesAnimal Models and Experimental Medicine, EarlyView.
Abstract Background Ex vivo lung perfusion (EVLP) allows the evaluation of lungs that do not meet standard transplantation criteria. Current procedures do not permit the identification of regional functional deficits. We investigated the feasibility of assessing lobar gas exchange during EVLP in a swine model.

Arterial switch operation after left ventricular retraining with ductal stent: Our experience

open access: yesAnnals of Pediatric Cardiology
Late-presenting transposition of the great arteries (TGAs) with an intact ventricular septum is characterized by left ventricular (LV) regression, making primary arterial switch operation (ASO) unsafe.

Validation of aortic valve 4D flow analysis and myocardial deformation by cardiovascular magnetic resonance in patients after the arterial switch operation

open access: yesJournal of Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance, 2019
Background Aortic regurgitation (AR) and subclinical left ventricular (LV) dysfunction expressed by myocardial deformation imaging are common in patients with transposition of the great arteries after the arterial switch operation (ASO ...

Two‐Dimensional Flow and Thermal Energy Transfer in Non‐Newtonian Casson–Carreau Ternary Hybrid Nanofluids Over Stationary and Moving Wedge Surfaces With Radiation and Magnetic Field Effects

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Efficient thermal management in advanced industrial systems requires improved heat transfer performance, particularly under non‐Newtonian fluid behavior and complex surface geometries. This study investigates the two‐dimensional flow and heat transfer characteristics of ternary hybrid nanofluids over both stationary and moving wedge surfaces ...

Exploring student perceptions of integrating mixed reality with cadaveric teaching in undergraduate neuroanatomy education: A qualitative study

open access: yesAnatomical Sciences Education, EarlyView.
Abstract Mixed reality (MR) using head‐mounted displays provides three‐dimensional visualizations that have been suggested to enhance learning when used alongside conventional anatomy teaching in medical education. This study explored student perceptions of the integration of MR and traditional cadaveric learning, and their optimal delivery to support ...

Supine‐Position Shoulder Arthroscopy Using the Anterior Portal as the Initial Approach

open access: yesArthroscopy Techniques, EarlyView.
Abstract Traditional shoulder arthroscopy mostly adopts the beach chair position or lateral decubitus position. Beach chair position is associated with the risk of cerebral hypoperfusion due to the vertical distance between the carotid artery and the heart, whereas lateral decubitus may induce brachial plexus palsy caused by excessive traction.

Left Ventricular Function after Arterial Switch Operation as Assessed by Two-Dimensional Speckle-Tracking Echocardiography in Patients with Simple Transposition of the Great Arteries

open access: yesJournal of Tehran University Heart Center, 2016
Background: The late postoperative course for children with transposition of the great arteries (TGA) with an intact ventricular septum (IVS) is very important because the coronary arteries may be at risk of damage during arterial switch operation (ASO).

Macrophage‐targeted cerium‐tannic acid metal‐polyphenol framework nanoenzyme promotes in situ heart valves regeneration through adaptive immunomodulation

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
A novel nanoenzyme based on cerium ions‐tannic acid metal‐polyphenol framework (FCT) has been developed and loaded onto DHVs for targeting M1 macrophages to reduce their ROS level and reprogram macrophage phenotype, thereby eliminating inflammation, promoting endothelialization and adaptive matrix remodeling of scaffolds, offering a promising strategy ...
