Arteriovenous fistula maturation and the influence of fluid dynamics
Proceedings of the Institution of mechanical engineers. Part H, journal of engineering in medicine, 2020Arteriovenous fistula creation is the preferred vascular access for haemodialysis therapy, but has a large failure rate in the maturation period. This period generally lasts 6 to 8 weeks after surgical creation, in which the vein and artery undergo ...

Factors affecting arteriovenous fistula dysfunction: A narrative review
Journal of Vascular Access, 2019Vascular access dysfunction is one of the most important causes of morbidity and mortality in haemodialysis patients, contributing to up to one third of hospitalisations and accounting for a significant amount of the health care costs of these patients ...

Cerebral arteriovenous fistulae
2021Dural arteriovenous fistulae (dAVFs) are diverse, complex lesions that share the common feature of arteriovenous shunting without an intervening nidus. In this chapter, the ensuing discussion is organized by dAVF location, followed by further consideration of less common, distinct types of dAVFs-carotid cavernous fistulae, pial arteriovenous fistulae ...

The Journal of Trauma: Injury, Infection, and Critical Care, 1987
We present a case of a splenic arteriovenous fistula (AVF) occurring postsplenectomy. The splenectomy was performed as a result of severe blunt abdominal trauma. The fistula was discovered in the postoperative period and controlled with intravascular coils. Splenic AVF are usually due to rupture of a pre-existing splenic artery aneurysm, post-traumatic,

Traumatic Arteriovenous Fistula
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1997Traumatic arteriovenous fistula in the head and neck may present a difficult problem in management. We present a surgical case of traumatic arteriovenous fistula between the right subclavian artery and internal jugular vein with false aneurysm formation.

Portosystemic arteriovenous fistulas
Gastrointestinal Radiology, 1980The authors report the angiographic demonstration of arteriovenous fistulas in three patients. The fistula was believed to be spontaneous in one case, related to abdominal surgery and to abdominal trauma in the other two cases. The importance of angiography in the diagnosis and evaluation of this disease has been emphasized in the literature.
