Molecular biological and biochemical investigations on the biosynthesis of ergot alkaloids in fungi of the families Trichocomaceae and Arthrodermataceae [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Ergot alkaloids are a complex family of indol derivatives with the typical tetracyclic ergoline ringsystem, which are produced by fungi of two different families, e.g. Aspergillus fumigatus (A. fumigatus), from the family Trichocomaceae, and Claviceps purpurea (C. purpurea), from the family Clavicipitaceae.

International Society of Human and Animal Mycology (ISHAM)-ITS reference DNA barcoding database - the quality controlled standard tool for routine identification of human and animal pathogenic fungi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Human and animal fungal pathogens are a growing threat worldwide leading to emerging infections and creating new risks for established ones. There is a growing need for a rapid and accurate identification of pathogens to enable early diagnosis and ...

Swainsonine Biosynthesis Genes in Diverse Symbiotic and Pathogenic Fungi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Swainsonine—a cytotoxic fungal alkaloid and a potential cancer therapy drug—is produced by the insect pathogen and plant symbiont Metarhizium robertsii, the clover pathogen Slafractonia leguminicola, locoweed symbionts belonging to Alternaria sect ...

Toward a Novel Multilocus Phylogenetic Taxonomy for the Dermatophytes. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Type and reference strains of members of the onygenalean family Arthrodermataceae have been sequenced for rDNA ITS and partial LSU, the ribosomal 60S protein, and fragments of β-tubulin and translation elongation factor 3.

The occurrence of Trichophytosis among people and cattle on a farm in Vojvodina, Serbia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Dermatophytoses are frequent contagious fungal skin diseases that affect the skin of people and animals. Zoophile dermatophytes pose a significant problem for both human and veterinary medicine, and they are especially present among bovines.

Phylogeny of chrysosporia infecting reptiles : proposal of the new family Nannizziopsiaceae and five new species [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
We have performed a phenotypic and phylogenetic study of a set of fungi, mostly of veterinary origin, morphologically similar to the Chrysosporium asexual morph of Nannizziopsis vriesii (Onygenales, Eurotiomycetidae,Eurotiomycetes, Ascomycota).

Genetics, Genomics and Evolution of Ergot Alkaloid Diversity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The ergot alkaloid biosynthesis system has become an excellent model to study evolutionary diversification of specialized (secondary) metabolites. This is a very diverse class of alkaloids with various neurotropic activities, produced by fungi in several

Two Different Secondary Metabolism Gene Clusters Occupied the Same Ancestral Locus in Fungal Dermatophytes of the Arthrodermataceae

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2012
Dermatophyte fungi of the family Arthrodermataceae (Eurotiomycetes) colonize keratinized tissue, such as skin, frequently causing superficial mycoses in humans and other mammals, reptiles, and birds. Competition with native microflora likely underlies the propensity of these dermatophytes to produce a diversity of antibiotics and compounds for ...
