Hand Surgery and Rehabilitation, 2021Arthrodesis of the trapeziometacarpal (TMC) joint is one of the first surgical procedures used to treat thumb basal joint arthritis. From 1970 to 1990, we performed 254 TMC arthrodeses with crossed K-wires. From 2015 to 2016, we performed 12 TMC arthrodesis procedures with shape-memory staples.

The Journal of Hand Surgery, 1993Since 1985 scaphocapitolunate arthrodesis has been performed on 21 patients with either chronic incompetence of the scapholunate ligament or a scaphoid nonunion. The average age was 31 years; follow-up averaged 28 months. Eighty-six percent of the injuries involved workers' compensation.
