Large Language Model‐Assisted Shared Decision‐Making (SDM) in Rhinology: A Randomized Controlled Pilot Study

open access: yesLaryngoscope Investigative Otolaryngology, Volume 11, Issue 3, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective Shared decision‐making (SDM) integrates patient preferences into evidence‐based care. Generative AI tools may offer a novel approach to facilitate SDM in rhinology, but their clinical utility has not been assessed. Methods In this prospective randomized pilot study conducted at a single tertiary academic rhinology clinic, English ...

Optimizing Use of Real‐World Data in Regulatory Decision Making for Medical Devices Used in Surgical Procedures

open access: yesPharmacoepidemiology and Drug Safety, Volume 35, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Purpose In the United States, the Food and Drug Administration has provided guidance on the contexts in which real‐world evidence (RWE) can be used to support regulatory decisions for medical devices. Methods In this paper, we review different sources of real‐world data (RWD) for medical devices used in surgical procedures and how to optimize ...

Unicompartmental knee replacement in a district general hospital

open access: yes, 2015
Unicompartmental knee replacement has been associated with a higher revision rate than total knee replacement in all national joint registers. It has been suggested that the appropriate training of surgeons to perform this arthroplasty is an important ...

Platform‐Specific Learning Curves in Robotic‐Assisted Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Systematic Review

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 18, Issue 6, Page 1116-1132, June 2026.
This systematic review compared learning curves for robotic‐assisted total knee arthroplasty across MAKO, NAVIO, and ROSA platforms. NAVIO required the fewest cases to proficiency, while radiographic accuracy and complication rates remained stable. Patient‐reported outcomes were inconsistently reported. ABSTRACT Robotic‐assisted total knee arthroplasty

Does Combined Intravenous and Topical Tranexamic Acid Offer Additional Benefit Compared With Intravenous or Topical Alone in Open Elbow Arthrolysis—A Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 18, Issue 6, Page 1183-1190, June 2026.
Open elbow arthrolysis is a common method for treating post‐traumatic elbow stiffness. Intravenous, topical, or combined tranexamic acid administration showed no significant difference in reducing postoperative blood loss after open elbow arthrolysis. However, both combined and topical tranexamic acid significantly reduced postoperative drainage volume

The influence of femoral head size following total hip replacement and hip resurfacing on hip biomechanics during walking, stair use and sit-to-stand

open access: yes
Due to geometrical features, it is claimed that larger femoral heads in total hip replacement (THR) are superior in achieving normal biomechanics than smaller ones; and that hip resurfacing (RSF) is superior to THR. This has not been conclusively proven.

Standardized Image‐Based Arthroscopic Technique for Hip Synovial Chondromatosis: Long‐Term Patient Outcomes

open access: yesOrthopaedic Surgery, Volume 18, Issue 6, Page 1223-1232, June 2026.
A clock‐face‐guided, imaging‐based arthroscopic protocol improves surgical orientation and facilitates complete removal of loose bodies in hip synovial chondromatosis, leading to favorable long‐term outcomes. ABSTRACT Objective Arthroscopic surgery is recommended for the treatment of hip synovial chondromatosis, as it allows patients to resume daily ...
