Customised hinged knee replacements as a salvage procedure for failed total knee arthroplasty

The Knee, 2004
Failure of knee arthroplasty can lead to significant pain and functional disability. In a small number of patients with fracture, sepsis or massive bone loss they are considered for arthrodesis or above knee amputation. The purpose of this study was to investigate the results and complications of using customised hinged knee replacements in their place.

Failures in Patellar Replacement in Total Knee Arthroplasty [PDF]

open access: possible, 2005
Patellar failure after TKA is often multifactorial. A careful assessment of patient factors, implant design and surgical technique must be performed. If there are major problems with implant design or component positioning, revision of the entire arthroplasty may be necessary to correct the patellar failure and ensure a durable result.

A Meta-Analysis of Patellar Replacement in Total Knee Arthroplasty for Patients With Knee Osteoarthritis

The Journal of Arthroplasty, 2018
This meta-analysis (MA) aims at comparing the clinical outcomes of resurfacing and nonresurfacing the patella in patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis.Randomized controlled trials were included by retrieving data from electronic English databases.

Replacement arthroplasty of the valgus knee [PDF]

open access: possibleThe Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery. British volume, 1998
Total knee arthroplasty (TKR) using a medial capsular approach gives worse results in arthritic knees with valgus deformity than in those in varus, usually because of swelling, poor wound healing and stiffness, instability, recurrent valgus deformity and poor patellar tracking.

Replacement of the patello-femoral joint with the total condylar knee arthroplasty

International Orthopaedics, 1984
We have studied 241 total condylar knee arthroplasties with replacement of the articular surface of the patella in 206 patients. The average age was 65 years. The technique of replacement of the patellofemoral joint emphasises realignment of the quadriceps mechanism, minimal excision of the patella to preserve subchondral bone, preservation of soft ...

Revision of isolated patellofemoral arthroplasty to total knee replacement

Current Orthopaedic Practice, 2009
Background Patellofemoral arthroplasty is becoming an established treatment for isolated patellofemoral arthritis. Revision to total knee replacement occasionally is required. Lessons learned from patients requiring revision surgery and their subsequent post-revision outcomes are described. Method This study reviewed 49 patellofemoral arthroplasties

Revision Knee Arthroplasty With Patella Replacement Versus Bony Shell

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1998
A study was undertaken to assess the clinical results of revision total knee arthroplasty in which an unresurfaced bony shell was left after removing a patellar component versus those in which a patellar component was implanted. Followup was obtained in 123 of 130 consecutive revision total knee replacements (94%) from three centers.

Perioperative clotting factor replacement and infection in total knee arthroplasty

Haemophilia, 2011
Summary.  Total knee arthroplasty, or replacement (TKR), is now the most commonly performed surgical procedure performed in adults with haemophilia. It is indicated when end‐stage haemophilic arthropathy results in intractable pain and reduced function.

Geometric Knee Replacement Arthroplasty Indications for Operation and Preliminary Experience

Orthopedic Clinics of North America, 1973
SUMMARY AND CONCLUSIONS Geometric total knee replacement arthroplasty is not recommended for general use until a longer follow-up is available. The early results of the operation are encouraging enough, however, to warrant further clinical trial. Failures of previous surgery have been salvaged successfully, and severe conditions of the knee joint have

Replacement of the Patellofemoral Joint with Total-Condylar Knee Arthroplasty

1985
Routine replacement of the patellofemoral joint with total knee arthroplasty is controversial despite the fact that the incidence of anterior knee pain with disabling symptoms has been reported to be 50% [1–17]. The argument put forward for patellofemoral joint replacement is based on theoretical grounds. It is generally accepted that peak loads in the
