MANAGEMENT OF THE PATELLA DURING REVISION TOTAL KNEE REPLACEMENT ARTHROPLASTY
Orthopedic Clinics of North America, 1998Managing the patella and balancing the patellofemoral joint space is one of the most difficult aspects of performing a primary total knee replacement (TKR). The situation is compounded in the revision situation. Unfortunately, an otherwise well-performed TKR will fail because of problems with the patella or the extensor mechanism.

Allografting in total knee replacement arthroplasty.
Seminars in arthroplasty, 1993Revision, and complicated primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA), may present with significant structural bony defects. Allograft offers blocks of material that can be shaped to the defect. The opportunity to gain a biological bond may theoretically enhance loading conditions and enhance any subsequent surgery.

Failures in Patellar Replacement in Total Knee Arthroplasty
2005Patellar failure after TKA is often multifactorial. A careful assessment of patient factors, implant design and surgical technique must be performed. If there are major problems with implant design or component positioning, revision of the entire arthroplasty may be necessary to correct the patellar failure and ensure a durable result.

The risk of contralateral total knee arthroplasty after knee replacement for osteoarthritis.
The Journal of rheumatology, 2003Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common indication for total knee arthroplasty (TKA), but the rate of contralateral disease progression after unilateral TKA as well as risk factors that may predict progression have not been determined. We assessed the overall rate of contralateral knee replacement after initial TKA for OA as a marker of progression to ...
