Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, 2006
The compensatory changes of carbohydrate metabolism induced by fasting were investigated in frugivorous bats, Artibeus lituratus and Artibeus jamaicensis. For this purpose, plasma levels of glucose and lactate, liver and muscle glycogen content, rates of liver gluconeogenesis and the activity of related enzymes were determined in male bats.

Sex determining mechanismXY 1Y2 inArtibeus lituratus lituratus (Chiroptera-phyllostomidae)

Polydactyly in the largest New World fruit bat, Artibeus lituratus
Mammal Review, 2011ABSTRACTPolydactyly in bats has rarely been observed; a few cases are recorded for insectivorous molossid and vespertilionid species in North America. Here we report polydactyly in the foliage‐roosting phyllostomid Artibeus lituratus, in the southern Pantanal floodplain and adjacent uplands, Brazil. Bats were mist‐netted in six populations, and capture

The Male Reproductive Cycle of the Bat Artibeus lituratus
American Midland Naturalist, 1965Reproductive activity of males of the tropical frugivorous bat, Artibeus lituratus, was investigated in west central Colombia for a 17-month period during 1961-1963. The climate of the area varied little throughout the study period, and climatic conditions did not influence reproductive activity in males.
