The localization transition at finite temperatures: electric and thermal transport

open access: yes, 2010
The Anderson localization transition is considered at finite temperatures. This includes the electrical conductivity as well as the electronic thermal conductivity and the thermoelectric coefficients.

Initial Data for Numerical Relativity [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
Initial data are the starting point for any numerical simulation. In the case of numerical relativity, Einstein's equations constrain our choices of these initial data.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

ELECTROCHEMICAL INFLUENCE OF AMINO ACIDS ON THE CORROSION OF BIOALLOYS

open access: yesJournal of Sustainable Technologies and Materials
Shape memory alloys are of great commercial importance from biomedical applications to smart materials. The electrochemical behavior of Cu-Al-Zn alloy in phosphate buffer without and in the presence of amino acid was investigated.

Dataset on the use of the Ratkowsky model for describing the influence of storage temperature on microbial growth in hake fillets (Merluccius merluccius) stored under MAP

open access: yesData in Brief, 2019
This article presents the results obtained after applying the Ratkowsky model for developing secondary models describing the influence of storage temperature on microbial growth in hake fillets packaged under a modified atmosphere (MAP) rich in CO2 (50 ...

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Need for and practical interpretations of the person-year construct in neuropsychiatric research

open access: yesIndian Journal of Psychological Medicine, 2019
In observational studies, groups of interest may be carved out of predictors of interest. Thus, for example, if cardiovascular (CVS) health at age 50 years is the predictor of interest for dementia as the long-term outcome, groups of interest could ...
