Assessment of Breeding Practices and Productive and Reproductive Performance of Multiple Livestock Species in Mixed Farming System in Majang Zone, Southwest Ethiopia

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 1, January 2026.
Assessing productive and reproductive performance is crucial for the sustainability and profitability of animal production systems, as these traits are directly linked to economic viability and herd health. The current investigation showed a relatively lower productive and reproductive performance various livestock species; attributed to poor ...

The Effect of Oral Calcium Boluses and Subcutaneous Calcium Injection on Blood Metabolites and Milk Yield in Holstein Cattle Fed Anionic Diets

open access: yesVeterinary Medicine and Science, Volume 12, Issue 1, January 2026.
Oral calcium supplementation modestly improved early postpartum plasma ionized Ca and reduced ketone body concentrations, suggesting moderated metabolic benefits. No effects on milk yield and fertility were found. Further research with larger sample sizes may be warranted to confirm these findings.

Preferences for Bundled Index‐Based Livestock Insurance: Evidence From Northern Kenya

open access: yesAgricultural Economics, Volume 57, Issue 1, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Considerable attention has been placed on bundled index insurance to enhance climate resilience, address multiple risks simultaneously, and increase the adoption of agricultural technologies. The Overlooked Threat of Global Warming on Elasmobranch Fertility

open access: yesFish and Fisheries, Volume 27, Issue 1, Page 41-55, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Climate change is increasingly recognised as a critical threat to global biodiversity, yet its impacts on reproductive processes remain poorly understood in many marine taxa. Elasmobranchs (sharks, skates and rays) represent a particularly vulnerable group due to their peculiar life histories, low fecundity, and diverse reproductive modes.

Study of Genetic Progress in the Context of Disconnection Between Two Originally Connected Populations

open access: yesJournal of Animal Breeding and Genetics, Volume 143, Issue 1, Page 24-34, January 2026.
ABSTRACT Genetic progress of breeding programs is highly dependent on the size of reference populations and the relatedness between reference populations and selection candidates. Many reasons can lead a population to split into several subpopulations (sanitary, physiological, political reasons, etc.).
