Validation of clinically related aging models based on enamel wear

open access: yesJournal of Prosthodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose Physiological and erosive wear reported in clinical studies were reviewed, and in vitro aging models were developed to simulate and compare the effect of aging on human teeth with the review data obtained from clinical studies. Methods A review of clinical studies and randomized clinical trials that quantify enamel wear was performed ...

Influence of nanohydroxyapatite mouthwash on the growth of Candida albicans biofilm on milled denture surfaces: An in vitro study

open access: yesJournal of Prosthodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose There is a need for effective solutions for the persistent prevalence of denture stomatitis (DS) in denture‐wearing populations. This study assessed the impact of nanohydroxyapatite (nanoHAP) nanoparticles on Candida albicans biofilm formation on milled polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) denture bases.

Wettability of saliva substitutes across various denture base fabrication techniques

open access: yesJournal of Prosthodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose The present study evaluated the contact angles (CAs) of four denture base materials subjected to different surface treatments using deionized water and saliva substitutes. Material and Methods A total of 32 rectangular specimens were manufactured using four different denture base materials: heat‐cured compression molded Lucitone 199 (C)

Obtaining full‐arch implant scan with smartphone video and deep learning: An in vitro investigation on trueness and precision

open access: yesJournal of Prosthodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose To investigate the accuracy of complete‐arch implant scans generated by a smartphone camera and a deep learning model. Materials and Methods A deep learning model was trained to generate 3D scans from smartphone videos using a maxillary edentulous model with 6 implants and scan bodies (SBs).

Assessing the influence of titanium dioxide nanotubes incorporation on thermal and thermomechanical characteristics of 3D‐printed denture base resin

open access: yesJournal of Prosthodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This study aims to evaluate the effects of adding titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanotubes (NTs) to three‐dimensional (3D) printed denture base resin on the thermal and thermomechanical properties, which have high clinical relevance. Materials and Methods TiO2 NTs with dimensions of 30–70 nm in diameter and 2–4 µm in length were added to the ...

Effects of gastric acid on surface roughness, microhardness, fracture strength, and color change of dental ceramics: A systematic review of in vitro studies

open access: yesJournal of Prosthodontics, EarlyView.
Abstract Purpose This systematic review evaluated the effects of simulated gastric acid (SGA) on surface and mechanical properties of dental ceramics to answer the research question: Does immersion in SGA alter the surface roughness, microhardness, fracture strength, and color of dental ceramics?

Multifunctional artificial saliva preparation – challenges and needs

Postępy Polskiej Medycyny i Farmacji, 2021
Saliva plays a crucial role in maintaining homeostasis not only within the oral cavity but also in further sections of the gastrointestinal tract. Pleiotropic properties of saliva include participation in the digestion of carbohydrates, cleansing and moisturizing the oral cavity, and maintaining the composition of the oral microbiome.

Artificial Salivas: Present and Future

Journal of Dental Research, 1987
Modern technology has allowed us to understand better the functions of saliva and now provides a rationale for developing: (1) diagnostic reagents for monitoring oral and systemic health status and (2) replacement therapies for individuals with salivary dysfunctions.

Artificial saliva substitutes and mineral dissolution

Journal of Oral Rehabilitation, 2001
The erosive potentials of a number of commercially available artificial saliva substitutes have been investigated using an in vitro hydroxyapatite powder dissolution assay. Most of the saliva substitutes examined did not show any appreciable erosive potential, although one product resulted in greater mineral dissolution levels.
