Crayons × Code: Re‐Exploring Children's Drawings With Multimodal AI and Dynamic Ethics

open access: yesArea, Volume 58, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Children's drawings are used to study their environmental perception, but AI‐powered analysis of these visual materials remains underexplored. This paper re‐explores the use of children's drawings as a tool for understanding their perceptions of the environment, leveraging multimodal AI for analysis.

Predation on Artificial Caterpillars Varies With Vertical Stratification but Not Light Gradients in a Sugar Maple Temperate Forest

open access: yesEntomologia Experimentalis et Applicata, Volume 174, Issue 6, Page 559-569, June 2026.
Predation pressure varies vertically, with highest arthropod predation in the understory and highest bird predation in the canopy. Light availability differs across vertical strata, but predation patterns are more strongly influenced by height and forest structure than by light gradients.

Partial Entrance Restriction as a Potential Tidal Flood Mitigation Strategy in a Large Urban Estuary

open access: yesJournal of Flood Risk Management, Volume 19, Issue 2, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Tidal flooding in estuaries is expected to worsen as sea‐level rise (SLR) continues to accelerate and increases storm surge height. Conventional structural defences are often unsustainable, while nature‐based solutions like managed realignment require extensive land to be repurposed.

Mosquito and arbovirus surveillance in wetlands of South‐East England: Comparison of two adult mosquito traps, use of a novel trap with FTA™ cards and arbovirus testing

open access: yesMedical and Veterinary Entomology, Volume 40, Issue 2, Page 407-421, June 2026.
Trap performance: Mosquito Magnet® captured significantly more mosquitoes overall, while BG‐Sentinel showed greater species evenness and was more effective for Culex pipiens s.l. and broader species representation. Spatial variation: Mosquito abundance and species composition varied significantly between wetlands, highlighting the importance of site ...

Urban Rainfall Island Detection Remains Uncertain: A Global Sensitivity Analysis Across Data Sets and Methods

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 9, 16 May 2026.
Abstract Urbanization can enhance local precipitation through thermodynamic and dynamic effects, yet detection of the urban rainfall island (URI) effect remains uncertain at the global scale because results vary across data sets, methods, and spatiotemporal resolutions.
