Production of artificial snow crystals
Physics Education, 1999Artificial snow crystals can be produced by a fairly simple method in a small closed cylindrical chamber made by combining an aluminium tube and a plastic tube. The chamber is set horizontally at room temperature and the end of the aluminium tube is cooled by dry ice.

What’s that stuff? Artificial snow
C&EN Global Enterprise, 2018Winter snowfalls herald all manner of fun and games: snowball fights, skiing, tobogganing, snowboarding, and, every four years, couch potato-ing as people all over the world watch the Winter Olympics. But what’s a winter sports enthusiast to do if the coveted precipitation doesn’t make an appearance? That’s when artificial snow comes in. Over the years,

Environmental Science & Technology, 2011
The utilization of artificial snow for environmentally relevant (photo)chemical studies was systematically investigated. Contaminated snow samples were prepared by various methods: by shock freezing of the aqueous solutions sprayed into liquid nitrogen or inside a large walk-in cold chamber at -35 °C, or by adsorption of gaseous contaminants on the ...

Laser Scanning of Natural and Artificial Snow Packs
MRS Proceedings, 1994AbstractIn an effort to numerically describe a snow pack as a disordered aggregate of irregularlyshaped particles, a new optical analysis system was conceived. The system measures light transmission through snow samples impregnated with an opaque fluid. The analysis of the results is presented.

The natural and artificial formation of snow in the atmosphere
Eos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1948Experiments, both in a laboratory and in nature, are described, in which small quantities of solid carbon dioxide have been used to produce enormous quantities of Miow crystals from clouds of supercooled water droplets. The solid carbon dioxide, or any other object colder than about −39°C, converts the supercooled water droplets to tiny ice crystals ...

Sublimation of snow intercepted by an artificial conifer
Agricultural and Forest Meteorology, 1991Abstract An experiment tested predictions of sublimation from snow intercepted on conifer crowns, using an artificial tree to avoid errors from desiccation and needle loss. The prediction model approximated vaporization from the crystal fragments most exposed on a snow surface by sublimation of uniform ice spheres.

Is Our Winter Experience Safe? Micropollutant Risks for Artificial Snowing
Science of The Total EnvironmentArtificial snowing is a process that allows ski operators adapt to snow scarcity due to climate change while raising environmental and public health concerns about the role it plays in environmental dissemination of pollutants, but studies addressing this question are still scarce.

Impact of artificial snow on the environment
