Role of estrogen related receptor beta (ESRRB) in DFN35B hearing impairment and dental decay [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
BACKGROUND: Congenital forms of hearing impairment can be caused by mutations in the estrogen related receptor beta (ESRRB) gene. Our initial linkage studies suggested the ESRRB locus is linked to high caries experience in humans. METHODS: We tested for

Are geometric morphometric analyses replicable? Evaluating landmark measurement error and its impact on extant and fossil Microtus classification. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Geometric morphometric analyses are frequently employed to quantify biological shape and shape variation. Despite the popularity of this technique, quantification of measurement error in geometric morphometric datasets and its impact on statistical ...

But how does it smell? An investigation of olfactory bulb size among living and fossil primates and other euarchontoglirans

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Analysis of cranial endocast data of 181 extant and 41 fossil species from Euarchontoglires shows that there was a reduction in olfactory bulb size in Crown Primates, but that there were also subsequent reductions in various other primate clades (Anthropoidea, Catarrhini, Platyrrhini, crown Cercopithecoidea, Hominoidea).

The significance of biometric parameters in determining anterior teeth width [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background/Aim. An important element of prosthetic treatment of edentulous patients is selecting the size of anterior artificial teeth that will restore the natural harmony of one’s dentolabial structure as well as the whole face.

Inter‐microscope comparability of dental microwear texture data obtained from different optical profilometers: Part II Deriving instrument‐specific correction equations for meta‐analyses using published data

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Dental microwear texture analysis (DMTA) has emerged as a valuable method for investigating the feeding ecology of vertebrates. Over the past decade, three‐dimensional topographic data from microscopic regions of tooth surfaces have been collected, and surface texture parameters have been published for both extant and fossil species.

Changes in denture teeth location in three different flasking techniques

open access: yesDental Journal
Background: Artificial tooth movement may compromise the occlusion of complete (or implant-supported complete) over-dentures. This movement can lead to traumatic occlusion that may need to be corrected because the planned harmonious occlusion is lost ...

Revisiting paravertebral muscles in European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) and European brown hares (Lepus europaeus) (Leporidae; Lagomorpha)

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Domesticated European rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) have long been chosen as laboratory model organisms. Despite this, there has been no definitive study of the vertebral musculature of wild rabbits. Relevant descriptions of well‐studied veterinary model mammals (such as dogs) are generally applicable, but not appropriate for a species ...

Description of the skull, braincase, and dentition of Moschognathus whaitsi (Dinocephalia, Tapinocephalia), and its palaeobiological and behavioral implications

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract A subadult Moschognathus whaitsi from the Eastern Cape Province, South Africa, was scanned using synchrotron radiation X‐ray computed tomography (SRXCT). Its subadult state allowed the cranial bones and teeth to be identified and individually reconstructed in 3D.

Natural Teeth Replacing Artificial Teeth in a Partial Denture: A Case Report [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Clinical and Diagnostic Research, 2013
The aesthetic replacement of anterior teeth in cases of immediate partial denture is always a challenging work for prosthodontists. There is always problem of matching size, colour, shade and shape of the replaced tooth with those of the natural teeth ...

Environmental enrichment for Killer whales Orcinus orca at zoological institutions: untried and untested [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Despite a history in zoological institutions stretching back more than 50 years, with associated improvements in husbandry and breeding, the keeping of Killer whales Orcinus orca in zoos and aquariums has become highly controversial.
