In the case of urinary incontinence due to intrinsic sphincter dysfunction (ISD) there are currently three options to offer: behavioral techniques, pharmacotherapy, and surgical intervention.

A two-stage approach has been adopted in 5; the prosthesis was implanted and deactivated then subsequently activated.
