Reducing Mercury and Increasing Gold in Artisanal Gold MInes
Background: Thirty seven percent of global mercury (Hg) pollution stems from small-scale or artisanal gold mining (AGM) usually in impoverished rural communities in developing countries.

Optimizing Gold Recovery of Artisanal Mining: A Lesson Learned from Kenya
The metallurgical testings to treat the Kenyan artisanal gold mining samples were performed with several processes such as gravity concentration (i.e., Knelson Concentrator and panning), flotation, and cyanidation or leaching.

Phytomining for Artisanal Gold Mine Tailings Management [PDF]
Mine tailings are generally disposed of by artisanal and small scale gold miners in poorly constructed containment areas and this leads to environmental risk. Gold phytomining could be a possible option for tailings management at artisanal and small-scale gold mining (ASGM) locations where plants accumulate residual gold in their above ground biomass ...

Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold Mining
Artisanal gold mining occurs informally and therefore relies on low technologies and extraction methods lacking pollution controls. As a result, despite the fact that artisanal gold mining produces only twenty percent of the world’s gold, it releases more mercury than any other sector and represents the largest source of mercury emissions.
