Introduction - Two Stories of the Arts and Humanities – and a Third Version Emerging

open access: yesAkademisk Kvarter, 2016
During the past few decades, a spectre has emerged, which is now haunting the Arts and Humanities in the Western world. The question posed by this spectre is: What is the usefulness of studying Arts and Humanities?

Graph Neural Network Driven Exploration of Non‐Precious Metal Catalysts for Air‐to‐Ammonia Conversion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A machine learning‐driven microkinetic framework, based on graph neural networks is developed, for screening non‐noble catalysts in NH2OH hydrogenation. This approach enables the discovery of efficient catalysts for plasma–electrochemical ammonia synthesis directly from air under ambient conditions. CuMnSb is identified as a top‐performing, sustainable

Seen But Seldom Heard: Creative Participatory Methods in a Study of Youth and Risk [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This paper presents a discussion of the methodologies used in a small scale ‘popular education’ project involving young people in creative activities. The goal of the project is to explore their experiences and feelings about risk and safety and their ‘

Super-large record-breaking mitochondrial genome of Cathaya argyrophylla in Pinaceae

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
IntroductionMitochondrial genomes (mitogenomes) in Pinaceae are notable for their large size and complexity. This study investigates the mitogenome of the critically endangered Cathaya argyrophylla to understand the drivers of its exceptional genome ...

Deep Seek to the Excited States: A Thermally‐Activated Jahn–Teller Effect Achieves Superior Sensitivity for Thermometry at Cryogenic Temperature

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A Sb3+‐activated bismuth‐based halide single crystal shifts the onset temperature by ≈200 K. The confluence of the spin‐orbit interaction and the dynamic Jahn–Teller effect is responsible for maximizing the opposite emission changes at different temperatures. A high relative sensitivity (Sr) value of 18.9 % K−1 is obtained at 77 K.

Fast and Reversible Red Emission Modulation in Photoswitchable Molecules Toward Optical Data Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A series of intense red‐emitting BTCPO4 photoswitches is synthesized, and their photophysical properties, such as fluorescence quantum yield, fatigue resistance, and reversible cyclization, are reported. The issue of slow reverse cyclization, which hinders fluorescence modulation (ON‐OFF) of these molecules, is overcome by utilizing energy transfer to ...

Religious Passions and Prayer Channeling Divine Disclosure: The Testimony of the Fourth-Century Syrian Fathers

open access: yesReligions
In this paper, I investigate what role religious emotions, passions, and prayer may play in what may be called the religion of the heart in early Syrian theology, especially in the several works of ’Aphrahaṭ, Saint Ephrem, and the anonymous collection ...
