Arus air sungai cendrung memiliki kecepatan yang relatif rendah sehinggan tidak banyak turbin arus sungai yang bisa digunakan untuk membangkitkan tenaganya. Ada beberapa turbin yang sudah dilembangkan seperti turbin air rus sungai jenis Savonius, Darius dan Gorlof tetapi kinerja nya masih buruk.
