Pediatric Epiglottopexy: A Scoping Review of Indications, Techniques, Outcomes, and Complications

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
This scoping review synthesizes the indications, techniques, outcomes, and complications of pediatric epiglottopexy across 24 studies comprising 371 patients from ten countries. Epiglottopexy, most often performed alongside supraglottoplasty, was associated with favorable respiratory and swallowing outcomes, though the evidence base consists ...

Exploring the Correlation Between Surgical Depth and Postoperative Voice Rest Duration in a Rabbit Phonomicrosurgery Model

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The optimal duration of voice rest after phonomicrosurgery remains a subject of debate, as clinical studies on its effect on vocal fold wound healing have yielded conflicting results, and a controlled animal model for investigating voice rest is currently unavailable. This study aimed to determine the optimal postoperative voice rest

Vibratory Characteristics and Quantitative Parameters of Laryngeal Dystonia: A Scoping Review of High‐Speed Videoendoscopy Studies

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective To review the clinical application and quantitative parameters of high‐speed videoendoscopy (HSV) in evaluating vocal fold kinematics in patients with laryngeal dystonia (LD), to summarize the limitations of existing studies, and to provide a reference for future clinical standardization.

Botox Injection Combined With Partial Arytenoidectomy: A Novel Approach for Treatment of Episodic Laryngeal Breathing Disorders

open access: yesWorld Journal of Otorhinolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective The aim of this study was to develop effective treatments for episodic laryngeal breathing disorders (ELBD), a series of diverse obstructive respiratory disorders with an unknown pathogenesis. The diseases include paradoxical vocal fold motion/movement disorder (PVFMD), vocal cord dysfunction (VCD), irritable larynx syndrome (ILS ...

Syrinx anatomy and vocalizations in New World vultures (Aves: Cathartidae): Implications for avian vocal evolution

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
New World vultures are the only avian clade proposed to lack a syrinx and have been described as non‐vocal. Using dissection, diceCT, and histology, we demonstrate that cathartid vultures have novel syringeal features that form a syrinx and vocal characterization reveals that they produce more complex vocalizations than previously reported.

Chondrosarcoma of the Arytenoid Cartilage: A Case Report and Review of the Literature [PDF]

open access: yesEar, Nose & Throat Journal, 2007
We report the case of a 56-year-old black woman with a locally aggressive chondrosarcoma at an unusual tumor site: the right arytenoid cartilage. The tumor extended from the superior pole of the right arytenoid cartilage to the soft-tissue areas of the right aiyepiglottic fold, piriform sinus, and interarytenoid area.

Computer simulation of movements of arytenoid cartilages.

open access: yesPractica Oto-Rhino-Laryngologica, 1989
Three-dimensional computer graphics and computer simulation should be useful to clarify the relationship between the three-dimensional movement of the arytenoid cartilage and the contraction power of the internal laryngeal muscles. The literature is reviewed in an attempt to clarify this relationship. It is necessary to identify both the three ...
