Cutaneous Melanoma Drives Metabolic Changes in the Aged Bone Marrow Immune Microenvironment

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Melanoma, the deadliest form of skin cancer, increasingly affects older adults. Our study reveals that melanoma induces changes in iron and lipid levels in the bone marrow, impacting immune cell populations and increasing susceptibility to ferroptosis.

Determination of Iridotrabecular Contact Using the Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography in Lights-on and Lights-off Conditions

open access: yesPhilippine Journal of Ophthalmology, 2019
Objective: To determine the presence of iridotrabecular contact (ITC) and compare the changes in anterior chamber angle (ACA) measurements in room lights-on and lights-off conditions using the anterior segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT) in ...

Ultrahigh-resolution OCT imaging of the human cornea.

open access: yesBiomedical Optics Express, 2017
We present imaging of corneal pathologies using optical coherence tomography (OCT) with high resolution. To this end, an ultrahigh-resolution spectral domain OCT (UHR-OCT) system based on a broad bandwidth Ti:sapphire laser is employed.

Inter-examiner agreement of the AS-OCT Visante corneal thickness

open access: yesJournal of Optometry, 2011
AbstractPurposeTo determine the inter-examiner agreement of the manual values of central and peripheral corneal thickness as measured by optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT Visante) and to assess the agreement between AS-OCT Visante pachymetry, Orbscan II and ultrasound pachymetry (USP).MethodsCentral and peripheral (4.0mm from the corneal centre to ...

Real‐World Performance of CSF Kappa Free Light Chains in the 2024 McDonald Criteria

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Kappa free light chains (KFLCs) in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) have a similar performance to CSF‐restricted oligoclonal bands (OCB) for multiple sclerosis (MS) diagnosis. To help with implementation, we set out to resolve several remaining uncertainties: (1) performance in a real‐world cohort and the 2024 McDonald criteria; (2 ...

Needle Tip Force Estimation using an OCT Fiber and a Fused convGRU-CNN Architecture

open access: yes, 2018
Needle insertion is common during minimally invasive interventions such as biopsy or brachytherapy. During soft tissue needle insertion, forces acting at the needle tip cause tissue deformation and needle deflection. Accurate needle tip force measurement

Amyloid prions in fungi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Prions are infectious protein polymers that have been found to cause fatal diseases in mammals. Prions have also been identified in fungi (yeast and filamentous fungi), where they behave as cytoplasmic non-Mendelian genetic elements.
