Altered Functional Expression of Alveolar Macrophage Subpopulations after Serpentine and Amphibole Asbestos Exposure

1989
There is considerable evidence that alveolar macrophages play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of asbestosis (Kagan 1985, Kagan 1988), since these phagocytic cells are a notable feature of histologic lesions at sites of asbestos deposition in the lungs (Davis 1963, Brody et al. 1981, Oghiso et al. 1984).

A disc with fivefold symmetry: the proposed fundamental seed structure for the formation of chrysotile asbestos fibres, polygonal serpentine fibres and polyhedral lizardite spheres

Mineralogical Magazine, 2010
AbstractA chrysotile disc is proposed as the fundamental seed structure for the formation of chrysotile asbestos fibres, polygonal serpentine fibres and polyhedral lizardite spheres. The curvature, fivefold symmetry and hydrogen-bonding alignment of the layers in the seed disc control the formation of the 15 or 30 sectors in polygonal serpentine and ...

Abstract 1468: Low exposures to amphibole or serpentine asbestos in germline Bap1-mutant mice induce mesotheliomacharacterized by an immunosuppressive tumor microenvironment

Cancer Research
Abstract The purpose of this study was to determine if minimal exposures to amphibole (crocidolite) and serpentine (chrysotile) asbestos fibers significantly increase the incidence and rate of malignant mesothelioma (MM) onset in mice with a germline heterozygous Bap1 mutation, and to assess the effect of the resulting gene × environment

[Clinical course of asbestosis under the existing conditions in extraction and processing of serpentine asbestos].

Meditsina truda i promyshlennaia ekologiia, 1999
The authors followed changes in clinical course of asbestosis, comparing groups of individuals working in exposure to chrysotile-asbestos dust, patients having so-called late asbestosis and reference group (individuals with absent or minimal roentgenologic changes in lungs). Analysis of 530 case histories proved increase of average length of service in
