Hybrid and/or mixed infection by pig and human Ascaris in a Guarani indigenous village in southern Brazil.

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases
BackgroundAscaris lumbricoides and Ascaris suum are nematode parasites that infect millions of people and pigs worldwide, respectively. Reports of cross-infection and hybridization between the two species has stimulated molecular epidemiological studies ...

Transcriptomic analysis of Ascaris suum larvae during their hepatopulmonary migration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Common roundworms are important intestinal nematodes of man (Ascaris lumbricoides) and pig (Ascaris suum). During the first stages of the infection, the larvae of these parasites undergo a hepatopulmonary migration.

Digestate from small‐scale biogas plants in central Vietnam produced under mesophilic conditions: friend or foe for local farmers?

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, Volume 19, Issue 3, Page 864-881, May/June 2025.
Abstract This study evaluates the suitability of digestate from small mesophilic biogas plants in central Vietnam for agricultural application. Digestate samples were collected from 85 farms and analyzed for microbial contamination and elemental composition.

Pathogen-reactive T helper cell analysis in the pig [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
There is growing interest in studying host-pathogen interactions in human-relevant large animal models such as the pig. Despite the progress in developing immunological reagents for porcine T cell research, there is an urgent need to directly assess ...

OMIP‐113: Characterization of Cytokine Producing T Cells in Swine

open access: yesCytometry Part A, Volume 107, Issue 5, Page 289-292, May 2025.
ABSTRACT T cells are essential for preventing diseases and providing long‐term protective immunity. The functional capacity of T cells and the quality of their responses to antigens can be measured by the cytokines they produce. We developed a conventional flow cytometry panel utilizing commercially available antibodies to measure antigen‐specific T ...

Iron‐Histidine Coordination in Cytochrome b5: A Local Vibrational Mode Study

open access: yesChemPhysChem, Volume 26, Issue 7, April 1, 2025.
Distal/proximal FeN bond strength and axial NFeN angle stiffness in a series of cytochrome b5s, isolated from different species such as bacteria, animals, and human were investigated with our local vibrational mode analysis combined with QM/MM calculations.

DNA extraction from Ascaris suum muscle tissue [PDF]

open access: yesParasitology Research, 1998
A new method for the extraction of DNA from Ascaris suum muscle has been developed. It combines a standard SDS-based extraction with a plant DNA extraction procedure. The use of SDS and proteinase K allows the elimination of proteins, while CTAB and polyclar AT eliminate glycogen and polyphenols.
