Is NGC6752 hiding a double black hole binary in its core ? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
NGC6752 hosts in its halo PSR J1911-5958A, a newly discovered binary millisecond pulsar which is the most distant pulsar ever known from the core of a globular cluster.

ASCAT scatterometer wind quality control

open access: yes, 2010
The so-called Advanced scatterometer (ASCAT), onboard MetOp-A satellite was successfully launched on October 19 2006. ASCAT derived sea surface wind field observations are well within the mission accuracy requirements. An important part of the Numerical Weather Prediction Satellite Application Facility (NWP-SAF) ASCAT Data Wind Processor (AWDP) is the ...

MetOp-A ASCAT Commissioning Quality Report

open access: yes, 2009
This report documents the results of ASCAT calibration and validation at the start of Phase E of the ASCAT mission on Metop-A. It describes the outcome of the ASCAT calibration process and the results from the calibration and validation tests as specified in the ASCAT Test Specifications document [AD1] and as put into a logical and coherent overall ...

Calibration and Validation of ASCAT Winds

open access: yes, 2007
34 pages In this report we evaluate normalisation correc tions to the demonstration L1b ASCAT backscatter data as provided by EUMETSAT and called “one transponder” data set. Based on the OSI SAF cone visualisation tools at KNMI and the CMOD 5 wind sensitivity, calibration of the ASCAT scatterometer is checked.

A Land-Corrected ASCAT Coastal Wind Product

open access: yesRemote Sensing
A new ASCAT coastal wind product based on a 12.5 km grid size is presented. The new product contains winds up to the coast line and is identical to the current operational coastal product over the open ocean. It is based on the assumption that within a wind vector cell land and sea have constant radar cross section.

Comparing ASCAT and CYGNSS Winds near Tropical Convection [PDF]

open access: yes
Gradient Features identified in ASCAT (Advanced Scatterometer) data correspond well to observed CYGNSS (Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System) wind shifts: Comparing ASCAT and CYGNSS winds near tropical convection.

Weakly interacting Bose gas in the one-dimensional limit

open access: yes, 2010
We prepare a chemically and thermally one-dimensional (1d) quantum degenerate Bose gas in a single microtrap. We introduce a new interferometric method to distinguish the quasicondensate fraction of the gas from the thermal cloud at finite temperature ...
