Influence of Differential Calcification in the Descending Thoracic Aorta on Aortic Pulse Pressure

open access: yesJournal of Patient-Centered Research and Reviews, 2017
Purpose: Multiple studies have shown pulse pressure (PP) to be a strong predictor of aortic calcification. However, no studies are available that correlate PP with aortic calcification at the segmental level.

Ascending Aorta Diameter Changes after Aortic Valve Replacement in Elderly Patients with Aortic Valve Stenosis

open access: yesCardiology Research and Practice, 2022
Objective. To describe the natural history of the ascending aorta in elderly patients after aortic valve replacement (AVR) for aortic valve stenosis and to clarify the risk factors associated with the progression of the ascending aorta. Methods.

Two-vessel off-pump coronary artery bypass grafting by left thoracotomy in a complex redo case [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Introduction: The left thoracotomy approach is an alternative technique for coronary revascularization to avoid complications associated with re-sternotomy, such as injury to patent grafts, right ventricle, aorta, during re-sternotomy.

A Human Engineered Heart Tissue‐Derived Lipotoxic Diabetic Cardiomyopathy Model Revealed Early Benefits of Empagliflozin

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study develops a human engineered heart tissue‐derived model of diabetic cardiomyopathy that accurately replicates the dynamic changes in the structural, contractile, and electrophysiological properties of the myocardium. Furthermore, this model is used to confirm the direct protective effects of empagliflozin on the heart through an SGLT2 off ...

Is it important to assess the ascending aorta after tetralogy of Fallot repair?

open access: yesRevista Portuguesa de Cardiologia, 2018
Introduction and Objectives: Aortic dilatation can develop late after tetralogy of Fallot repair. Its extension beyond the aortic root is not clearly understood.

Thoracic aorta cardiac-cycle related dynamic changes assessed with a 256-slice CT scanner [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Objective: The aim of our study was to demonstrate whether the dynamic changes previously documented at the ascending and abdominal aorta are replicated at the thoracic aorta.

Optimal Extent of Lymph Node Dissection for Non‐Metastatic Colon Cancer by Tumor Location: Evaluation of the Therapeutic Value Index for Each Lymph Node Station

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
Lymph node dissection of the main nodes along the feeding artery has a therapeutic value in early‐stage colon cancers. Meanwhile, the significance of #253 dissection for descending colon cancer requires further discussion. ABSTRACT Aims To determine the optimal extent of lymph node dissection for non‐metastatic colon cancer by tumor location based on ...

Automating the determination of wave speed using the pu-loop method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
The PU-loop (pressure-velocity loop) is a method for determining wave speed and relies on the linear relationship between the pressure and velocity in the absence of reflected waves.

A Soft‐Tip Hydraulically Steerable Catheter for Enhanced Flexibility and Safety in Vascular Interventions

open access: yesAdvanced Intelligent Systems, EarlyView.
This study introduces a hydraulically steerable catheter with a soft tip in vascular procedures. The steering soft tip achieves a minimal diameter of 2.6 mm and supports a 180° bend. Real‐time shape and position tracking, facilitated by segmentation and endpoint detection techniques, improves navigation.

Evaluation of Distensibility and Stiffness of Ascending Aortic Aneurysm using Magnetic Resonance Imaging

open access: yesJournal of Nepal Medical Association, 2016
Introduction: Magnetic resonance imaging emerging as a new tool for the diagnosis and evaluation of ascending aortic aneurysm. The aim of our study is to evaluate in vivo distensibility and pulse wave velocity of the aortic wall using functional magnetic
