Cannulation of the Ascending Aorta
The Annals of Thoracic Surgery, 1971Abstract A simplified technique of cannulating the ascending aorta for cardiopulmonary bypass is described. Additional uses of this method for the rapid institution of bypass and the control of hemorrhage are discussed. The only complication in a series of 1,000 patients was postoperative hemorrhage through the cannulation site requiring reoperation ...

Spontaneous rupture of the ascending aorta
European Journal of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, 1991A case of spontaneous non-traumatic rupture of the thoracic aorta in a hypertensive patient is presented. The clinical findings suggested acute aortic dissection, and a large pericardial effusion was detected by echocardiography. The typical angiographic features of aortic dissection were not found.

Calcification of the Ascending Aorta
The British Journal of Radiology, 1958Calcification of the aorta is generally interpreted as part of the ageing process, and usually little attention is paid to this finding. It should, however, be realised that its location in the different segments of the aorta may be of clinical and diagnostic significance.

Aneurysm of the ascending aorta
Heart, 2010Ascending thoracic aortic aneurysm (ATAA) is defined as a dilatation of the ascending aorta producing a cross sectional diameter more than 1.5 times its normal value; values between 1.1 and 1.5 are considered dilated or ectatic ascending aorta. Normal values have been established by different imaging techniques: echocardiography, computed tomography ...

Dilated ascending aorta in the fetus
Prenatal Diagnosis, 2021AbstractIntroductionPrenatal recognition of dilated aortic root is extremely rare and there are significant challenges in counselling these patients. The primary aim of this case series is to describe the prevalence, associations and outcome of dilated ascending aorta diagnosed during fetal life.MethodsThis is a retrospective cohort study from two ...
