Ascorbic acid deficiency and hepatic UDP-glucuronyl transferase [PDF]

open access: yesBiochemical Pharmacology, 1988
The effect of dietary ascorbic acid on hepatic microsomal UDP-glucuronyltransferase (UDPGT) activity towards p-aminophenol, bilirubin, and acetaminophen was investigated. Ascorbate deficiency produced a 33% reduction in the specific activity of UDPGT towards p-aminophenol, whereas there was no difference between microsomes from ascorbate-deficient and ...

Retrospective Evaluation of Clinical Experience With Intravenous Ascorbic Acid in Patients With Cancer. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
BACKGROUND: Intravenous ascorbic acid (IV AA) has been used extensively in cancer patients throughout the United States. Currently, there are limited data on the safety and clinical effects of IV AA.

EDNRB‐dependent endothelin signaling reduces proliferation and promotes proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition in gliomas

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

URINARY EXCRETION OF WATER-SOLUBLE VITAMINS (C, B1, B2, AND B6) IN HEALTHY CHILDREN OF PRESCHOOL AND SCHOOL AGE: A CROSS-SECTIONAL STUDY

open access: yesВопросы современной педиатрии, 2018
Background. Children of preschool and school age are at risk of developing vitamin deficiency. Screening of the vitamin provision of children remains an urgent problem of pediatrics. Objective.

Tea fungus fermentation on a substrate with iron(ii)-ions [PDF]

open access: yesActa Periodica Technologica, 2002
Iron is essential element for human metabolism and it is a constituent of both heme- containing and nonheme proteins. Its deficiency can cause serious diseases, i.e. iron-deficiency anemia, with some fatal consequences.

L-Ascorbic Acid Metabolism in the Ascorbate-Deficient Arabidopsis Mutant vtc1 [PDF]

open access: yesPlant Physiology, 1997
Abstract The biosynthesis of L-ascorbic acid (vitamin C) is not well understood in plants. The ozone-sensitive Arabidopsis thaliana mutant vitamin c-1 (vtc1; formerly known as soz1) is deficient in ascorbic acid, accumulating approximately 30% of wild-type levels.

Establishing an assay to evaluate d‐amino acid oxidase enzyme kinetics and inhibition using WST‐8 redox dye

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study investigated a novel WST‐8‐based assay for evaluating d‐Amino acid oxidase (DAO) inhibitors. We confirmed its effectiveness using known inhibitors and found that uremic toxins possess relatively weak inhibitory activity compared to existing drugs.

Sudden anaerobization in Amphibacillus xylanus increases intracellular labile ferrous iron and inhibits cell growth

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Abruptly changing from aerobic to anaerobic conditions (sudden anaerobization) induced growth inhibition and a significant increase in intracellular labile ferrous iron in the aerotolerant anaerobe Amphibacillus xylanus. We found that free flavins mediate efficient electron transfer from NADH to ferric iron under anaerobic conditions, suggesting that ...

3D‐Printed Porous Hydroxyapatite Formed via Enzymatic Mineralization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Bone combines lightness, strength, and the ability to heal, inspiring new materials design. This work introduces a room‐temperature, enzyme‐mediated 3D printing method to create porous hydroxyapatite scaffolds. The process avoids energy‐intensive sintering, preserves bioactivity, and allows control over porosity and mineralization.

Effect of Combined Oral Ferrotherapy with L-carnitine on Exercise Tolerance of Patients with Chronic Heart Failure with Reduced Ejection Fraction of Left Ventricle with Concomitant Iron Deficiency Anemia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
According to numerous studies, a high prevalence of iron deficiency (ID) with anaemic syndrome and its association with mortality during chronic heart failure (CHF) have been revealed.
