Aseptic Loosening of the Monk hip Prosthesis

Acta Orthopaedica Scandinavica, 1980
In a preliminary report concerning 104 Monk arthroplasties satisfactory results were found within an observation time of 1.6 years (Hansen & Rechnagel 1977). However an early tendency for aseptic loosening was recorded. At a follow-up of the same patients after 5 years it was found that 17 patients, with their primary prostheses in place, had died.

The Biology of Aseptic Loosening

2013
Total joint replacement is an effective surgical intervention for those patients with end stage of joint diseases. The major factor limiting the survival of joint implants is wear debris which is primarily generated from the bearing articular surface of the artificial joint.

Aseptic Implant Loosening

2017
Aseptic loosening is one of the more frequent complications following primary THA. Certain patient, component, and surgical technique factors have been identified as risk factors. Therefore, the risk reduction of aseptic loosening in primary THA largely depends on optimal patient and implant selection as well as proper surgical technique.

Autophagy Involvement in Aseptic Loosening of Arthroplasty Components

Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery, 2019
➤ Aseptic loosening, the most common cause of arthroplasty component failure, is due to implant wear and subsequent release of biomaterial wear particles to the bone microenvironment, leading to a chronic inflammatory response.

Revision Knee Arthroplasty due to Aseptic Loosening

Acta chirurgiae orthopaedicae et traumatologiae Cechoslovaca, 2007
Anatomic changes associated with aseptic loosening make conditions for revision of total knee arthroplasty more diffi-cult. The aim of this study was to evaluate the results of revision total knee replacement at an average follow-up of 6.1 years.A total of 97 revision knee replacements due to aseptic loosening carried out in the years 1992 to 2003 were

Revision resurfacing knee arthroplasty for aseptic loosening

Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery, 1998
This re-investigation presents our experience with revision resurfacing knee arthroplasty caused by aseptic failure. The evaluation of the results should elucidate the benefit of revision, its complications as well as the impact of the implant type used.

In Vitro Studies on the Role of Titanium in Aseptic Loosening

Clinical Orthopaedics and Related Research, 1996
This study was designed to define the role titanium debris plays in aseptic loosening. Macrophages exposed to commercially pure titanium (1-3 microns) exhibit the same mediator profile as those exposed to polymethylmethacrylate. This response consists of increased release of tumor necrosis factor but not prostaglandin E 2 or interleukin-1.

Plasma Cytokines as Markers of Aseptic Prosthesis Loosening

Clinical Orthopaedics & Related Research, 2006
The proinflammatory cytokines IL-1beta, IL-8, and TNF-alpha play a major role in the process of bone resorption during aseptic loosening of large joint prostheses. These cytokines secreted locally during bone resorption in aseptic loosening may enter peripheral circulation.

High Femoral Offset as a Risk Factor for Aseptic Femoral Component Loosening in Cementless Primary Total Hip Arthroplasty [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Orthopaedics
PURPOSE Lateralized stems in primary cementless total hip arthroplasty (THA) showed to be associated with aseptic femoral loosening. However, femoral head length also affects femoral offset but was not considered so far.

Lack of Consensus on the Definition of Aseptic Loosening in Total Ankle Replacement: A Narrative Systematic Review

open access: yesJournal of Clinical Medicine
Background: Aseptic loosening is one of the most common modes of failure of total ankle replacement (TAR). However, a precise definition of aseptic loosening is still lacking. This systematic review aimed to identify the variations of applied definitions
