Depositional environment and sequence stratigraphy of the Oligo-Miocene Asmari Formation in SW Iran

Facies, 2005
The Asmari Formation, a thick carbonate succession of the Oligo-Miocene in Zagros Mountains (southwest Iran), has been studied to determine its microfacies, paleoenvironments and sedimentary sequences. Detailed petrographic analysis of the deposits led to the recognition of 10 microfacies types.

The Asmari Formation Revisited: Changed Stratigraphic Allocation and New Biozonation

Proceedings, 2009
The essential biostratigraphy of the Asmari Formation was outlined in the early 1950’s and thereby the only published record of the biostratigraphy before the Asmari Formation was formally described in the mid 1960’s. The traditional Iranian biostratigraphy is based on unpublished reports.

Sequence Microbiostratigraphy of Jahrum and Asmari Formation in Shiraz Area, Zagros, Fars, Iran ()

open access: yesOpen Journal of Geology, 2014
The study of sequence microbiostratigraphy of Jahrum and Asmari formation in Shiraz, Fars, Zagros, SW of Iran and recognition of relationship between depositional sequence parameters and microbiostratigraphy 3 stratigraphic sections (Beyza, Sarvestan A, B and Estahban sections) have been selected and studied.

Biostratigraphy, paleoecology, and paleoenvironmental reconstruction of the Asmari formation in Zagros basin, southwest Iran

Arabian Journal of Geosciences, 2016
The present work is focused on the biostratigraphic analysis, paleoecological interpretations, and paleoenvironmental reconstruction of sediments of the Asmari Formation. The Asmari Formation, which is mainly composed of carbonates, has been studied in the Rig anticline in the Izeh zone, Zagros Basin, Iran.

Stratigraphy and depositional environment of the Asmari Formation in selected locations in the Persian Gulf

Petroleum Geoscience
The Oligo-Miocene Asmari Formation is the most important reservoir unit in onshore SW Iran. It is more than 500 m thick in the central Zagros fold-and-thrust belt, decreasing in thickness southwards towards the offshore to less than 200 m in oil fields to the SE and NW of the Persian Gulf, and it does not extend over the Qatar Arch in the central area.

Relationship between the sedimentary microfacies and geomechanical behavior of the Asmari Formation carbonates, southwestern Iran

Marine and Petroleum Geology, 2020
Abstract The objective of this paper is to address the impact of texture (and thus the related sedimentary environments and facies and diagenetic overprint) on the geomechanical behavior of the Asmari Formation carbonates. Three sets of data were utilized in this study; i) sedimentological data including thin section petrography, porosity, density ...

Comparison of Asmari, Pabdeh and Gurpi formation's fractures, derived from image log

Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2009
Abstract Small scale fractures around the wellbore, strongly affect the hydrocarbon production. Identification of fracture plays a main role in production and development plans of oil fields. Image logs are one of the powerful tools in fracture study in wells. Image log is a high resolution “pseudo picture” of borehole wall.

Biostratigraphy, facies analysis and paleoecology of the Asmari Formation in the northwest of Behbahan, south-western Iran

Carbonates and Evaporites, 2014
In this research, the biostratigraphy analysis, paleoecological interpretation and paleoenvironmental reconstruction of carbonate sediments of the Asmari Formation are based on the identified foraminiferal assemblages. The Asmari Formation was measured in the southern flank of Bangestan Anticline in north-western Behbahan (south-western Iran). Based on

Textural pattern of secondary gypsum in the Basal Anhydrite of the Asmari Formation, SW Iran

2017
The Oligocene–Miocene deposits of the Asmari Formation are located in SW of the Zagros Mountains of Iran. The lower part of the Asmari Formation consists of an evaporite bed that is termed Basal Anhydrite. Seven sections from four different anticlines were selected and sampled for petrographic and mineralogical analyses .The petrographical examinations
