The Future of Asphalt Pavements
2006This paper discusses the future of asphalt pavement design and construction. It poses the following question: how do we make long-life pavements? In addressing this question, the answer is framed around three areas of asphalt technology: 1-Structural design; 2-Materials; and 3-Construction.

Pavement Performance of Asphalt Surface Course Containing Reclaimed Asphalt Pavement (RAP)
Journal of Testing and Evaluation, 2012Abstract Reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) provides many advantages. The performance of a provincial road with an asphalt surface course containing RAP in Zhejiang, China was evaluated. The surface course was prepared by central plant hot mix recycling and virgin asphalt concrete. An AC-13 was chosen as gradation design in all mixes.

Pothole detection in asphalt pavement images
Advanced Engineering Informatics, 2011Pavement condition assessment is essential when developing road network maintenance programs. In practice, the data collection process is to a large extent automated. However, pavement distress detection (cracks, potholes, etc.) is mostly performed manually, which is labor-intensive and time-consuming.

Degradation behaviors of asphalt by microorganisms in asphalt pavement structure
Bioresource TechnologyPseudomonas and Bacillus are dominant microorganisms to widely distributes in asphalt pavement structure. Microbial degradation leads to asphalt aging, and causes its performance deterioration, reducing the durability of asphalt pavement. To better understand the degradation behaviors of dominant microorganisms on asphalt, and reveals their microbial ...

Cold Recycling of Reclaimed Asphalt Pavements
2018Pavement engineers have in front of them multiple challenges linked to addressing issues related to social development and society’s expanding needs. One of the most substantial of these issues is perhaps how to effectively rehabilitate and/or maintain the existing road network while preserving and sustaining limited natural resources.
