Modeling Asphaltene Precipitation During Primary Depletion
SPE Journal, 1997Summary This paper describes a thennodynamic model for asphaltene that captures the behavior of asphaltene precipitation during primary depletion. Precipitation occurs above the saturation pressure, reaches a maximum value around the saturation pressure, and decreases as the pressure drops further.

Asphaltene precipitation with partially oxidized asphaltene from water/heavy crude oil emulsion
Journal of Petroleum Science and Engineering, 2016Abstract A novel asphaltene precipitation method of using partially oxidized asphaltene was proposed to reduce the amounts of asphaltene in heavy crude oil. Partially oxidized asphaltene enhanced the aggregation of asphaltene in oil, and the precipitation of asphaltene from heavy crude oil. By adding a small amount of partially oxidized asphaltene in

Abstract Asphaltene self-association and precipitation are unfavorable processes that can occur during production, transportation, and storage of crude oils. The primary mechanisms of asphaltene self-association are dispersion interactions, electrostatics interactions, hydrogen bonding, and orientation-dependent repulsive steric ...

Asphaltene Precipitation From Reservoir Fluids: Asphaltene Solubility and Particle Size vs. Pressure
International Symposium on Oilfield Chemistry, 2003Abstract The near-infrared (NIR) light scattering technique, commercially known assolids detection system (SDS) is widely used to determine the asphalteneprecipitation pressure in reservoir fluids. In this study the SDS is used tocompare samples collected from the same zone in the same well at the same timebut in different sample ...

Effect of Asphaltene Concentration on the Aggregation and Precipitation Tendency of Asphaltenes
Energy & Fuels, 2014Destabilized asphaltenes can easily adhere to the oil well production equipment, the transportation pipelines, and also the refining and storage facilities, resulting in significant remediation costs. Therefore, it is of great importance to the energy industry to understand the factors that govern the kinetics of asphaltene aggregation and ...

A THERMODYNAMIC MIXED-SOLID ASPHALTENE PRECIPITATION MODEL
Petroleum Science and Technology, 1998ABSTRACT A simple model for the prediction of asphaltene precipitation is proposed. The model is based on an equation of state and uses standard thermodynamics, thus assuming that the precipitation phenomenon is a reversible process. The solid phase is treated as an ideal multicomponent mixture. An activity coefficient model based on the athermal Flory-

Characterization of Carbon-Dioxide-Induced Asphaltene Precipitation
Energy & Fuels, 2011Asphaltene precipitation continues to be one of the major problems during the carbon dioxide enhanced oil recovery process. Supercritical carbon dioxide is injected into oil reservoirs to enhance oil recovery in the tertiary phase of production. Development of multiple-contact miscibility is important in the success of a carbon dioxide flood.

Asphaltene Precipitation and Crude Oil Wetting
SPE Advanced Technology Series, 1995ABSTRACT Precipitates that form as the result of interactions between an asphaltic crude oil and low molecular weight paraffin solvents can remain suspended in the oil phase, rather than being adsorbed onto solid surfaces. Adsorption may be restricted to surfaces made oil-wet by oil/brine/rock interactions prior to precipitation.
