The Paradox of Asphaltene Precipitation with Normal Paraffins

Energy & Fuels, 2005
For bitumens and crude oils, the volume of n-paraffin at the flocculation point, which is the point of incipient asphaltene precipitation, increases as the n-paraffin carbon number increases, reaching a maximum at a carbon number of 9 or 10, and then decreases.

Reversibility and Kinetic Precipitation of Asphaltenes

2019
Asphaltenes are one of the component fractions in crude oil and can destabilize due to a change of pressure, temperature, or composition. Destabilized asphaltenes can precipitate and deposit, causing numerous problems and challenges during oil production and processing such as plugging, fouling, and emulsion stability.

Asphaltene Precipitation: A Need for a Broader View

SPE International Symposium on Oilfield Chemistry, 1993
Abstract Asphaltene content of an ultra-heavy oil was compared to the asphaltene contents of residual fractions obtained after supercritical extraction of the oil with propane. The asphaltene contents of the residual fractions were found to be significantly greater than the asphaltene content of the original oil even after prorating the ...
