Aspects of asphaltene aggregation obtained from coarse-grained molecular modeling
We have performed a molecular-simulation-based study to explore some of the underlying mechanisms of asphaltene aggregation. The daunting complexity of the crude oil + asphaltene system precludes any type of meaningful molecular simulation unless some ...

Waxes in asphaltenes of crude oils and wax deposits
Composition and molecular mass distribution of n-alkanes in asphaltenes of crude oils of different ages and in wax deposits formed in the borehole equipment were studied. In asphaltenes, n-alkanes from C12 to C60 were detected.

The determination of asphaltene molecular weights is complicated by the tendency of asphaltene molecules to associate with each other and with other petroleum constituents, and reported molecular weights vary from 900 to 300 000.
