Aspheric surface calibrator

Applied Optics, 1981
A new type of aspheric surface calibrator has been developed at the National Research Council of Canada. It employs a nonmechanical contact technique for measuring rotationally symmetrical uncoated concave optical surfaces which depart from a sphere by as much as 0.5 mm with a precision of 0.3 microm.

Aspherical lens design

Journal of the Optical Society of America A, 2013
Given a three-dimensional surface G, not necessarily rotationally symmetric, and away from a point source, we design a surface F such that the lens sandwiched between the two surfaces refracts radiation into a given direction or into a given point. The surface F satisfies a system of first-order partial differential equations that can be solved in ...

On the Designing of Aspheric Surfaces

Proceedings of the Physical Society, 1948
A method is developed for the design of an aspheric surface to ensure axial stigmatism in any given centred optical system. It is shown that when the surface is in the interior of the system the determination of its profile depends on the solution of a certain transcendental equation.

Aspheres in Microlithography

Fabrication and Testing of Aspheres, 1999
Application of aspheric surfaces in Microlithographic projection optics is discussed, along with the manufacturing and test methods needed to ensure the extremely high surface quality needed for this application.

Testing optical aspheric surfaces by aspheric characteristic interferogram

SPIE Proceedings, 2000
The interference pattern of the optical path difference between an aspherical optical surface and the corresponding best fit spherical surface is the Aspherics Characteristic Interferogram (ACI), which can be used as a template to test aspheric optical surfaces without test plates or null compensation systems.

Accounting for Asphericity

2020
Most global-scale simulations of stars neglect perturbations to its spherical geometry arising form external or internal forces, such as rotation or tides. To take these into account, one can map from the distorted geometry back onto the sphere, with the addition of a few new geometrical terms in the operators of a given set of equations.
