New dating method: Groundwater residence time estimated from the 4He accumulation rate calibrated by using cosmogenic and subsurface-produced 36Cl

open access: yesEPJ Web of Conferences, 2012
Groundwater contains dissolved He, and its concentration increases with the residence time of the groundwater. Thus, if the 4He accumulation rate is constant, the dissolved 4He concentration in ground-water is equivalent to the residence time.

Davemaoite Elasticity Reveals Slab‐Induced Heterogeneity in the Mantle Transition Zone

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 53, Issue 2, 28 January 2026.
Abstract The observed 2%–7% low‐shear velocity (VS) anomalies near the subducted slab at the bottom mantle transition zone (MTZ) indicate strong lateral heterogeneity, which is commonly attributed to subducted oceanic crust. However, davemaoite, a major constituent of the subducted oceanic crust, has been poorly constrained in its elasticity, hindering

Thermally Induced Fault Reactivation Controlled by Heating Rate: Implications for Long‐Term Safety Assessment of Deep Geological Repository

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 18, 28 September 2025.
Abstract Heat from radioactive decay of nuclear waste disposal in deep geological repositories may thermally load the host rocks containing fractures and faults, potentially causing fault reactivation and induced seismicity. To investigate the effect of heating rate on stability of thermally induced fault slip, we conducted three experiments of ...
