Preoperative Liver Function Test Abnormalities Were Associated With Short-Term and Long-Term Prognosis in Cardiac Surgery Patients Without Liver Disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2021
Aims: To explore the value of preoperative liver function tests (LFTs) for the prognosis of cardiac surgery patients without liver disease. Methods: The Medical Information Mart for Intensive Care III (MIMIC-III) database was used to extract the clinical ...

Acute Effect of Enhanced External Counterpulsation on the Carotid Hemodynamic Parameters in Patients With High Cardiovascular Risk Factors

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2021
PurposeEnhanced external counterpulsation (EECP) can improve carotid circulation in patients with coronary artery disease. However, the response of carotid hemodynamic parameters induced by EECP in patients with high cardiovascular risk factors remains ...

Assisted Circulation [PDF]

open access: yesCirculation, 1963
The effect of counterpulsation upon hemodynamics and myocardial oxygen consumption was studied in 14 dogs. With properly synchronized counterpulsation, a reduction in mean systolic pressure, tension-time index, left ventricular work, and myocardial oxygen consumption was observed, with no change in effective cardiac output.

Postoperative Serum Creatinine Serves as a Prognostic Predictor of Cardiac Surgery Patients

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2022
BackgroundSerum creatinine, an important diagnostic indicator for acute kidney injury (AKI), was considered to be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

Cardiac function and exercise capacity in patients with metabolic syndrome: A cross-sectional study

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2022
BackgroundMetabolic syndrome is a pre-diabetes condition that is associated with increased cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. We aimed to explore how exercise capacity, cardiac structure, and function were affected in patients with metabolic ...

Acute Hemodynamic Responses to Enhanced External Counterpulsation in Patients With Coronary Artery Disease

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2021
Purpose: Enhanced external counterpulsation is a non-invasive treatment that increases coronary flow in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). However, the acute responses of vascular and blood flow characteristics in the conduit arteries during ...

Intensity of hypertensive exposure in young adulthood and subclinical atherosclerosis in middle age: Evidence from the CARDIA study

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2022
BackgroundChronically high blood pressure (HBP) is a known risk factor for cardiovascular diseases. We measured the intensity of hypertensive exposure in young adults and calculated its prognostic significance for subclinical atherosclerosis in middle ...

Sex-Specific Associations of Risks and Cardiac Structure and Function With Microalbumin/Creatinine Ratio in Diastolic Heart Failure

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2020
Background: Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) affects women more frequently than men. However, data on sex-specific associations of adverse health outcomes and left ventricular structure and function and with microalbuminuria in ...

Visit-to-Visit Fasting Glucose Variability in Young Adulthood and Cardiac Structure and Function at Midlife: The CARDIA Study

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2021
Glycemic variability was found associated with left ventricular structure and function in type 2 diabetes. But it is still unclear that whether the greater visit-to-visit fasting glucose (FG) variability in young adulthood among the community population ...

Non-vitamin K antagonist oral anticoagulants versus warfarin in atrial fibrillation patients with heart failure and preserved, mildly reduced, and reduced ejection fraction: A systemic review and meta-analysis

open access: yesFrontiers in Cardiovascular Medicine, 2022
BackgroundPatient prevalence of atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure (HF) is increasing, and anticoagulation for patients from heterogeneous backgrounds with both conditions remains controversial. In this meta-analysis, we are aiming to compare the
