African ancestry is associated with cluster-based childhood asthma subphenotypes

open access: yesBMC Medical Genomics, 2018
Background Childhood asthma is a syndrome composed of heterogeneous phenotypes; furthermore, intrinsic biologic variation among racial/ethnic populations suggests possible genetic ancestry variation in childhood asthma.

TRAIL‐PEG‐Apt‐PLGA nanosystem as an aptamer‐targeted drug delivery system potential for triple‐negative breast cancer therapy using in vivo mouse model

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Aptamers are used both therapeutically and as targeting agents in cancer treatment. We developed an aptamer‐targeted PLGA–TRAIL nanosystem that exhibited superior therapeutic efficacy in NOD/SCID breast cancer models. This nanosystem represents a novel biotechnological drug candidate for suppressing resistance development in breast cancer.

Vacuum Polarization by a Magnetic Flux Tube at Finite Temperature in the Cosmic String Spacetime

open access: yes, 2008
In this paper we analyse the effect produced by the temperature in the vacuum polarization associated with charged massless scalar field in the presence of magnetic flux tube in the cosmic string spacetime.

Some new Besov and Triebel-Lizorkin spaces associated with para-accretive functions on spaces of homogeneous type [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Australian Mathematical Society, 2006
AbstractLet (X, ρ, μ)d, θbe a space of homogeneous type withd< 0 and θ ∈ (0, 1],bbe a para-accretive function, ε ∈ (0, θ], ∣s∣ > ∈ and a0∈ (0, 1) be some constant depending ond, ∈ ands. The authors introduce the Besov spacebBspq(X) with a0> p ≧ ∞, and the Triebel-Lizorkin spacebFspq(X) with a0>p> ∞ and a0> q ≧∞ by first establishing a

Colorectal cancer‐derived FGF19 is a metabolically active serum biomarker that exerts enteroendocrine effects on mouse liver

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Meta‐transcriptome analysis identified FGF19 as a peptide enteroendocrine hormone associated with colorectal cancer prognosis. In vivo xenograft models showed release of FGF19 into the blood at levels that correlated with tumor volumes. Tumoral‐FGF19 altered murine liver metabolism through FGFR4, thereby reducing bile acid synthesis and increasing ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Employing the Method of Characteristics to Obtain the Solution of Spectral Evolution of Turbulent Kinetic Energy Density Equation in an Isotropic Flow

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2019
This study aims to review the physical theory and parametrizations associated to Turbulent Kinetic Energy Density Function (STKE). The bibliographic references bring a broad view of the physical problem, mathematical techniques and modeling of turbulent ...

Diffusion in a Granular Fluid - Theory

open access: yes, 2002
Many important properties of granular fluids can be represented by a system of hard spheres with inelastic collisions. Traditional methods of nonequilibrium statistical mechanics are effective for analysis and description of the inelastic case as well ...

Keratin 19 as a prognostic marker and contributing factor of metastasis and chemoresistance in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Keratin 19 (KRT19) is overexpressed in high‐grade serous ovarian cancer with high levels of Kallikrein‐related peptidases (KLK) 4–7 and is associated with poor survival. In vivo analyses demonstrate that elevated KRT19 increases peritoneal tumour burden.

A remark on kth-order linear functional equations with constant coefficients

open access: yesAdvances in Difference Equations, 2006
Abel functional equations are associated to a linear homogeneous functional equation with constant coefficients. The work uses the space S of continuous strictly monotonic functions.
