Change in background context disrupts performance on visual paired comparison following hippocampal damage [PDF]
The medial temporal lobe plays a critical role in recognition memory but, within the medial temporal lobe, the precise neural structures underlying recognition memory remain equivocal. in this study, visual paired comparison (VPC) was used to investigate

Experiments with holographic associative memory
Abstract We reiterate the theoretical basics of holographic associative memory, and conduct two experiments. During the first experiment, we teach the system many associations, while during the second experiment, we teach it only one association. In both cases, the recalling capability of the system is examined from different aspects.

In situ molecular organization and heterogeneity of the Legionella Dot/Icm T4SS
We present a nearly complete in situ model of the Legionella Dot/Icm type IV secretion system, revealing its central secretion channel and identifying new components. Using cryo‐electron tomography with AI‐based modeling, our work highlights the structure, variability, and mechanism of this complex nanomachine, advancing understanding of bacterial ...

Is there room for the BBC in the mental lexicon? On the recognition of acronyms [PDF]
It has been suggested that acronyms like BBC are processed like real words. This claim has been based on improved performance with acronyms in the Reicher-Wheeler task, the letter string matching task, the visual feature integration task, and the N400 ...

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Associative memory stored by functional novel pathway rather than modifications of preexisting neuronal pathways [PDF]
Associative conditioning involves changes in the processing pathways activated by sensory information to link the conditioned stimulus (CS) to the conditioned behavior.

Negative affect impairs associative memory but not item memory
The formation of associations between items and their context has been proposed to rely on mechanisms distinct from those supporting memory for a single item.
