A nuclear spin of 9/2 was measured for 7.2-hr At/sup 211/ by the method of atomic beams. The At/sup 211/ was prepared by bombarding a bismuth target with 29-Mev alpha particles. (W.D.M.)

Toxicity of Astatine-211 in the Mouse
Human Toxicology, 1988The toxicity of the α particle emitting halogen astatine-211 was examined in male and female mice. Pathological changes were seen in mice killed at 14 days and/or at 56 days following a single injection of 61 kBq211 At per g body weight. The tissues affected, in order of severity were: spleen, lymph nodes, bone marrow, gonads, thyroid, salivary glands

Astatine-211—Tellurium Radiocolloid Cures Experimental Malignant Ascites
Science, 1981An investigation of the efficacy of astatine-211—tellurium colloid for the treatment of experimental malignant ascites in mice reveals that this α-emitting radiocolloid can be curative without causing undue toxicity to normal tissue. By comparison, negatron-emitting phosphorus-32 as colloidal chromic phosphate had no antineoplastic activity.

Cyclotron isotopes and radiopharmaceuticals—XXXV astatine-211
The International Journal of Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 1985Abstract The excitation functions for the 209Bi(α,2n)211At and 209Bi(α,3n)210At reactions were measured between 21.1 and 29.2 MeV. A target was designed to optimize the production of 211At with cyclotron beam currents of ≤ 10 μA. A novel radiochemical separation apparatus was developed to permit elution of 211At− into small controlled volumes, using ...

Extraction of astatine-211 in diisopropylether (DIPE)
Radiochimica Acta, 2009The extraction mechanism of astatine-211 in diisopropylether (DIPE) is studied by analyzing the effect of the nature of the aqueous solution and organic solvent on the distribution coefficients characterizing the ratio of organic and aqueous concentration of astatine (D). On the one hand, at a given pH value, D was shown to be independant of the nature

Some microdosmetric data on Astatine-211
Applied Radiation and Isotopes, 2003Radionuclides which emit short range, high LET radiations such as alpha and Auger electrons have very promising applications in cancer therapy. Such radionuclides should eventually be incorporated into cell nuclei to achieve high radiotoxic effectiveness.

The in Vitro Radiobiology of Astatine-211 Decay
Radiation Research, 1986Chinese hamster V79 cells in culture were exposed to astatine-211, an a-particle-emitting radiohalogen. The dose-log survival response was linear with no detectable shoulder. Cells in monolayers had a Do of 1.0 ACi/ml. Suspended cells had a Do of 0.60 gCi/ml with a cellular uptake of 2.5 fCi/cell; this is equal to approximately 1.5 a-particle ...

Astatine-211 Radiopharmaceuticals; Status, Trends, and the Future
Current RadiopharmaceuticalsAbstract: The low range of alpha particles provides an opportunity to better target cancer cells theoretically leading to the introduction of interesting alpha emitter radiopharmaceuticals including 225Ac, 212Pb, etc. The combination of high energy and short range of alpha emitters differentiates targeted radiotherapy from other methods and reduces ...
