Micro Gondwana: soil and litter mesofauna in the subalpine and alpine of North‐West Nelson, southern New Zealand

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Zoology, Volume 52, Issue 5, Page 944-966, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Alpine ecosystems are vulnerable to the warming climate, yet alpine soil mesofauna remains the less studied part of NZ biodiversity. Here we present a survey of soil mesofauna communities of three mountain peaks in the Nelson‐Tasman and Marlborough regions of the South Island of New Zealand.

The Falkland Islands’ palaeoecological response to millennial‐scale climate perturbations during the Pleistocene–Holocene transition: Implications for future vegetation stability in the southern ocean islands

open access: yesJournal of Quaternary Science, Volume 34, Issue 8, Page 609-620, November 2019., 2019
ABSTRACT Oceanic island flora is vulnerable to future climate warming, which is likely to promote changes in vegetation composition, and invasion of non‐native species. Sub‐Antarctic islands are predicted to experience rapid warming during the next century; therefore, establishing trajectories of change in vegetation communities is essential for ...

Palaeoendemic invertebrates weakly reflect palaeoendemic plants across a 52‐year‐old fire boundary

open access: yesAustral Ecology, Volume 49, Issue 9, September 2024.
Palaeoendemic invertebrates are associated with palaeoendemic vascular plants more than could be expected by chance in alpine/subalpine ecosystems on either side of a 52‐year‐old fire boundary. However, some palaeoendemic invertebrates are generalists in their associations with plant species.

Plant community controls small-scale variation in nutrient stoichiometry in a Patagonian peatland [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Elemental stoichiometry of plant litter is typically interpreted to reflect nutrient availability and limitation, e.g. the N:P ratio indicates whether plant growth is N- or P-limited and might point towards the presence of N-fixation.
