Within-Ecosystem Comparison of Bigmouth Buffalo <i>Ictiobus cyprinellus</i> and Common Carp <i>Cyprinus carpio</i> Reveals Diverging Population Trajectories, Declining Recruitment, and a Lifespan of 148 Years. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Within‐ecosystem comparison of invasive common carp and native bigmouth buffalo reveals recruitment gaps for bigmouth buffalo longer than any other animal and lifespans approaching 150 years. In the post‐dam era, invasive common carp are increasing in number while native bigmouth buffalo are declining. ABSTRACT The bigmouth buffalo Ictiobus cyprinellus

Effects of season of fire on bee-flower interaction diversity in a fire-maintained pine savanna. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2023
Season of fire (winter, spring, summer, or fall) did not affect the total richness or abundance of bees over the entire sampling period. However, the richness of bee–flower interactions was significantly higher in spring and summer plots than in fall plots and there were compositional differences among treatments.

Otolith Shape Variation Reveals a Preliminary and Novel Stock Structure Signal of Yellowtail Kingfish (<i>Seriola lalandi</i> <i>lalandi</i>) in Aotearoa New Zealand. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
Climate‐driven range expansion is reshaping marine species distributions and complicating stock assessment, including for Yellowtail Kingfish (Seriola lalandi lalandi) in Aotearoa New Zealand, which have recently expanded southward from a historically northern range.

Estudio Preliminar Sobre La Epifauna De Hesperocidaris Asteriscus (Echinodermata: Echinoidea)

open access: yesCiencias Marinas, 1983

Effects of climate change on the distribution of plant species and plant functional strategies on the Canary Islands

open access: yesDiversity and Distributions, Volume 29, Issue 9, Page 1157-1171, September 2023., 2023
Abstract Aim Oceanic islands possess unique floras with high proportions of endemic species. Island floras are expected to be severely affected by changing climatic conditions as species on islands have limited distribution ranges and small population sizes and face the constraints of insularity to track their climatic niches.

Limited evidence for species‐specific sensitivity of temperature‐dependent fractionation of oxygen stable isotope in biominerals: A meta‐analysis

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, Volume 14, Issue 7, Page 1719-1731, July 2023., 2023
Abstract Water temperature is key to the study of aquatic ectotherm ecology, but precise measurements of individual‐based thermal experience remain difficult to validate. The stable isotope composition of oxygen in biominerals acts as a natural thermometer due to the temperature dependence of isotopic fractionation between water and mineral phases ...

Hearing in catfishes: 200 years of research

open access: yesFish and Fisheries, Volume 24, Issue 4, Page 618-634, July 2023., 2023
Abstract Ernst Weber stated in 1819, based on dissections, that the swimbladder in the European wels (Silurus glanis, Siluridae) and related cyprinids serves as an eardrum and that the ossicles connecting it to the inner ear function as hearing ossicles similar to mammals. In the early 20th century, K.
