Long-term Stable Equilibria for Synchronous Binary Asteroids
Synchronous binary asteroids may exist in a long-term stable equilibrium, where the opposing torques from mutual body tides and the binary YORP (BYORP) effect cancel.

Abstract JAXA's Hayabusa2 sample return mission visited the volatile‐rich carbonaceous (C‐type) asteroid (162173) Ryugu with the aim of ground‐truthing remote observations, returning a pristine sample from a C‐type asteroid, and strengthening links between asteroids and the meteorite collection. Here, we have conducted a systematic study of coarse (>10

Optical observations of NEA 162173 (1999 JU3) during the 2011-2012 apparition
Near-Earth asteroid 162173 (1999 JU3) is a potential target of two asteroid sample return missions, not only because of its accessibility but also because of the first C-type asteroid for exploration missions.

Abstract Solar wind Fe and Mg fluences (atoms/cm2) were measured from Genesis collectors. Fe and Mg have similar first ionization potentials and solar wind Fe/Mg should equal the solar ratio. Solar wind Fe/Mg is a more valid measure of solar composition than CI chondrites and can be measured more accurately than spectroscopic photospheric abundances ...

A Post‐Launch Summary of the Science of NASA's Psyche Mission
Astronomical observations indicate that asteroid (16) Psyche is a large, high‐density (likely >3,400 kg·m−3), metal‐rich (30–55 vol. %) asteroid. Psyche may be remnant core material or it could be a primordial, undifferentiated metal‐rich object.

Jovian Early Bombardment: planetesimal erosion in the inner asteroid belt
The asteroid belt is an open window on the history of the Solar System, as it preserves records of both its formation process and its secular evolution.

Abstract Refractory inclusions (RIs) in chondrites are widely used as tracers of early solar system formation conditions. In the context of sample‐return missions, a non‐destructive and non‐invasive analytical tool that can rapidly detect and characterize RIs in space samples during their early phase of study is highly needed.

Harvesting Near Earth Asteroid Resources Using Solar Sail Technology [PDF]
Near Earth asteroids represent a wealth of material resources to support future space ventures. These resources include water from C-type asteroids for crew logistic support; liquid propellants electrolytically cracked from water to fuel crewed vehicles ...
