Optical observations of NEA 162173 (1999 JU3) during the 2011-2012 apparition
Near-Earth asteroid 162173 (1999 JU3) is a potential target of two asteroid sample return missions, not only because of its accessibility but also because of the first C-type asteroid for exploration missions.

1. Intraspecific agonistic behavior, called bouts, which involves ray interactions between individual sea stars, is reported in species from all three living orders of asteroids and described for Patiria miniata and Pycnopodia helianthoides. This behavior indicates a certain sensitivity to conspecific contact on the aboral surface, in which each ...

Abstract We report new results from a study of shock‐related features in the L6 ordinary chondrites Northwest Africa (NWA) 4672 and NWA 12841. Our observations confirm the occurrence of eight high‐pressure (HP) minerals in each meteorite, namely, ringwoodite, majorite, akimotoite, wadsleyite, albitic jadeite, lingunite, tuite, and xieite.

Harvesting Near Earth Asteroid Resources Using Solar Sail Technology [PDF]
Near Earth asteroids represent a wealth of material resources to support future space ventures. These resources include water from C-type asteroids for crew logistic support; liquid propellants electrolytically cracked from water to fuel crewed vehicles ...

Abstract Angrites and eucrites are among the oldest basaltic rocks in the solar system. However, the shock histories of these meteorite groups differ markedly, as most angrites show little to no evidence of shock metamorphism. While some angrites exhibit weak wavy extinction in olivine, indicative of low‐level shock, only two—Northwest Africa (NWA ...

The Chemical Composition of an Extrasolar Minor Planet
We report the relative abundances of 17 elements in the atmosphere of the white dwarf star GD 362, material that, very probably, was contained previously in a large asteroid or asteroids with composition similar to the Earth/Moon system. The asteroid may

3D SR‐μXCT analysis for lithology detection: Application to Ryugu sample A0159
Abstract Extraterrestrial breccia samples are formed through impact‐related processes that combine the fragments of distinct lithologies. As such, they are valuable indicators of the complex formation and evolution history of planetesimals in our solar system.

Development of an Anchoring System for the Soft Asteroid Landing Exploration
The landing mechanism is easy to flow away from the surface of the asteroid, as there is nearly no gravity on the asteroid. One of the most problems for the asteroid landing exploration is to anchor the landing mechanism on the asteroid surface.
