On nature of evolution of short-period comets. On the question of short-period comets evolution
The main hypothesis of short-period comets evolution are considered. Basing on the performed researches we conclude that the main sources of short-period comets are: main asteroid belt, relict asteroid belts between giant planets and the Kuiper belt.

Olivine-rich achondrites from Vesta and the missing mantle problem
Ultramafic olivine-rich achondrites provide insight into the missing mantle problem in the asteroid belt. The petrology and geochemistry of these samples suggests they are related to Vesta or the Vestoids.

Perturbations Due to the Asteroid Belt [PDF]
AbstractA new expansion for the gravitational potential of the asteroid belt is derived in this paper on the basis of binomial expansions. Its advantages are: (1)the unified form both for the inner and for the outer regions of the belt; (2)suitability for discussing the motions of the celestial bodies with perihelions within but apohelions beyond the ...

Organic matter and water from asteroid Itokawa
Understanding the true nature of extra-terrestrial water and organic matter that were present at the birth of our solar system, and their subsequent evolution, necessitates the study of pristine astromaterials.

Survey of secular resonances in the asteroid belt [PDF]
Using a recently introduced synthetic method to compute the asteroid secular frequencies (Knežević and Milani 2019), in this paper we survey the locations of secular resonances in the 9 dynamically distinct zones of the asteroid belt.

Ryugu’s Anhydrous Ingredients and Their Spectral Link to Primitive Dust from the Outer Solar System
Ryugu is a second-generation C-type asteroid formed by the reassembly of fragments of a previous larger body in the main asteroid belt. While the majority of Ryugu samples returned by Hayabusa2 are composed of a lithology dominated by aqueously altered ...

Depletion of the Outer Asteroid Belt [PDF]
During the early history of the solar system, it is likely that the outer planets changed their distance from the sun, and hence, their influence on the asteroid belt evolved with time. The gravitational influence of Jupiter and Saturn on the orbital evolution of asteroids in the outer asteroid belt was calculated. The results show that the sweeping of

Diffusion in the asteroid belt [PDF]
In the beginning we review briefly the evolution of the ideas on the motion of the bodies in our solar system, from Newton's clockwork Universe to the presently accepted ubiquity of chaotic transport in the asteroid belt. Then we discuss the result of chaotic motion, which is transport in phase space, and we introduce the concept of diffusion of an ...
