Asteroid long-periodic perturbations: generic term representation of the determining function

Planetary and Space Science, 1994
Abstract A simple scheme is introduced for representing, in a computer readable form, the determining function of the canonical transformation needed to compute the asteroid long-periodic perturbations. The theory and the procedures involved in this computation are described in detail.

Diverse configurations of binary asteroids explained by multi-generation satellites

IntroductionNear-Earth asteroids and small main-belt asteroids (MBAs) with diameters between 200 m and 20 km are thought to be rubble piles. Most of their satellites are believed to be born from rotational mass shedding of the primary body, where the spin-up of a primary asteroid triggers mass shedding, creating a transient debris disk that finally re ...

Satellite Dynamics About Asteroids: Computing Poincaré Maps for the General Case

1999
The study of orbital dynamics of spacecraft about non-spherical bodies has usually been restricted to the “planetary” case where the body is close to an oblate spheroid, with only a relatively small degree of equatorial ellipticity. When investigating spacecraft dynamics about asteroids, the situation is drastically different as the asteroid shape is ...

High-Fidelity Local 3D Terrain Reconstruction for Asteroids via Generative Modeling

Asteroid exploration, sample return, and defense missions critically require accurate three-dimensional (3D) reconstructions of target celestial bodies, including global shape models and high-fidelity local topographic details (Richardson et al. 2022; Thomas et al. 2023).
