Experience in Asteroid Search using Astrometrica Software [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Advanced Computer Science and Applications, 2019
The present work of this research consists of the analysis of telescopic images provided by the International Astronomical Search Collaboration (IASC) to find asteroids that can be named. The concern in searching for asteroids helps the scientific community that promotes the collaboration of young students and astronomy fans get experience in finding ...

SEARCH FOR THE RETURN OF ACTIVITY IN ACTIVE ASTEROID 176P/LINEAR [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2014
We present the results of a search for the reactivation of active asteroid 176P/LINEAR during its 2011 perihelion passage using deep optical observations obtained before, during, and after that perihelion passage. Deep composite images of 176P constructed from data obtained between June 2011 and December 2011 show no visible signs of activity, while ...

Optimal searches for asteroids [PDF]

open access: yesIcarus, 1984
Optimal searches for a fixed object are discussed, and the rigorous analytical results of discrete search theory are presented. The totally optimal, the uniformly optimal, the locally optimal, and the fastest searches are shown to be identical under not too restrictive assumptions.

A NEAR-INFRARED SEARCH FOR SILICATES IN JOVIAN TROJAN ASTEROIDS [PDF]

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal, 2011
We obtained near-infrared (0.8 - 2.5 micron) spectra of seven Jovian Trojan asteroids that have been formerly reported to show silicate-like absorption features near 1 micron. Our sample includes the Trojan (1172) Aneas, which is one of three Trojans known to possess a comet-like 10 micron emission feature, indicative of fine-grained silicates.

The case for a deep search for Earth’s Trojan asteroids [PDF]

open access: yesNature Astronomy, 2019
The existence of Earth's Trojan asteroids is not well constrained and represents a major gap in our inventory of small bodies in near-Earth space. Their discovery would be of high scientific and human interest.

AsteroidFinder – the space-borne telescope to search for NEO Asteroids [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Conference on Space Optics — ICSO 2010, 2017
This paper presents the mission profile as well as the optical configuration of the space-borne AsteroidFinder telescope. Its main objective is to retrieve asteroids with orbits interior to Earth’s orbit. The instrument requires high sensitivity to detect asteroids with a limiting magnitude of equal or larger than 18.5mag (V-Band) and astrometric ...

Moon search algorithms for NASA's Dawn Mission to asteroid Vesta [PDF]

open access: yesSPIE Proceedings, 2012
A moon or natural satellite is a celestial body that orbits a planetary body such as a planet, dwarf planet, or an asteroid. Scientists seek understanding the origin and evolution of our solar system by studying moons of these bodies. Additionally, searches for satellites of planetary bodies can be important to protect the safety of a spacecraft as it ...
