Relativistic asteroseismology

2019
AbstractThe ideas behind gravitational-wave asteroseismology are introduced and motivated by a set of phenomenological relations. The impact of general relativity on different classes of stellar oscillation modes is outlined and the emergence of a new family of modes (the w-modes) associated with the dynamcis of spacetime itself is explained.

Asteroseismology & Interferometry

2005
Asteroseismology aims at constraining the stellar evolution theory, and allows to determine the age of stars together with other fundamental parameters. We present recent results obtained by interferometry, and prospects for the future.

Theory of asteroseismology

Journal of Astrophysics and Astronomy, 2005
The increasing number of pulsating modes in a star leads to the increase of the amount of information derived from the pulsation. Probing the invisible interior of stars is a dream come true. In this review, I summarize the fundamental properties of stellar pulsations and the excitation mechanisms, emphasizing several cases of recent progress.

Asteroseismology Vs. Astrometry

2000
The mean densities of roAp stars can be predicted from the fundamental spacings of their observed p-mode eigenspectra. Combined with mass estimates and effective temperatures from Stromgren photometry, seismic results yield luminosities which can be compared with those from Hipparcos parallaxes. The first such comparison (for a sample of 12 roAp stars)

Asteroseismology from space

Advances in Space Research, 1991
Abstract Asteroseismology is a new field of stellar physics. Its scientific return is of primary importance. Consequences will fall on different fields of physics as well as astronomy and cosmology. High precision photometry from space is the only technique able to detect non radial oscillations in a significant set of stars with different masses ...

Visualising asteroseismology

We present a visualisation tool for asteroseismology, freely available online for outreach and teaching applications. The tool is capable of visualising stellar oscillations in various ways — including both theoretical and observational aspects — such as mode mixing, measuring techniques, power spectra and effects of rotation.
